An exciting opportunity has arisen for an OT with a passion for Neurosurgery and Spines to join our friendly and supportive OT department as a Band 7 OT in the Neurosurgery / Spines specialist team. You will work alongside band 5 and 6 OT's, Band 7, 6 and 5 Physio's, Assistant Practitioner and Therapy Assistant.
Neurosurgery within the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences is one of the busiest neurosurgery departments in the United Kingdom, providing outstanding clinical care to patients across the range of neurosurgical sub-specialties.
Within Surgical Neurosciences, there are 8 dedicated neuro high dependency (level two) beds, 16 intensive care (level three) beds in a shared facility which can flex as to the number of neuroscience beds depending on demand, 65 non-elective general beds, and 35 elective beds, of which there are 7 monitored (level 1.5) beds.
You will work with a highly skilled and motivated MDT and within the OT department you will be supported by the OT Operational / Professional Lead and peer support from the 11 band 7 OT's in the OT department. You are very welcome to visit us and ask any questions you may have.
Main duties of the job
To take a lead role in the advanced assessment and the treatment of Neurosurgical / Spinal patients, who may have complex and / or chronic presentation. To determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
To be a source of expertise and undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience.
To plan, coordinate and evaluate Occupational Therapy service in own work area provided to Neurosurgical / Spinal in-patients on a day-to-day basis, and to cover for any other area with this specific caseload as necessary. To support and lead the Occupational Therapy in the delivery of evidence-based and client-centred care across the Neurosurgical wards.
To monitor and improve standards of care by efficient use of resources, utilising clinical audit and research within neurosciences.
To take the lead in teaching, training, and supervision of clinicians within the Occupational Therapy service.
To work as an autonomous practitioner being professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your work, managing own caseload and maintaining patient and own records.
To lead assessment, liaison and decision-making processes on behalf of the MDT for patients referred to the service and effectively liaise and communicate with the patient and external agencies.
