We are recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of a leading textile recycling plant in Bilston including all inbound logistics, goods-in and yard management, bank operations, and outbound logistics. This role ensures efficient transport, resource management, and high service levels for suppliers while maintaining compliance, cost efficiency, and health & safety standards across all areas. Key responsibilities include leading and coaching the internal team of over 100 operatives, managing subcontractors and logistics providers, optimising collections, and ensuring smooth trailer and bank rotations, raw material deliveries, and on-time dispatch of finished goods.
Responsibilities
Health, Safety, and Compliance
Ensure all operations comply with H&S regulations, transport standards, and site safety protocols
Enforce policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment across transport, yard, and warehouse operations
Streamlining existing processes using lean manufacturing techniques and six sigma
Conduct regular risk assessments and implement corrective actions to improve workplace safety
Oversee PPE use, safe vehicle operation, and adherence to site-specific safety measures for both in-house staff and subcontractors
Monitor and enforce full compliance with route regulations, legal and contractual requirements, including O' Licence regulations, driver hours, and road worthiness standards
Manage incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions for H&S violations
Collection and Inbound Logistics
Manage subcontractors and logistics providers responsible for the collection and transport of raw material.
Ensure smooth trailer rotations and prevent shortages to maintain a steady flow of inbound materials.
Optimise collection processes, monitoring subcontractor performance and implementing key performance metrics.
Oversee bank operations, ensuring timely swaps and repairs to optimise service efficiency
Organise and oversee trailer scheduling, ensuring efficient utilisation and timely deliveries..Provide performance feedback to subcontractors, ensuring that SLAs and contract obligations are met
Goods-In and Yard Management
Oversee goods-in operations, ensuring raw materials are offloaded, sorted, and processed efficiently.
Manage yard operations, ensuring organised trailer movements and safe unloading procedures.
Implement and enforce H&S measures in the yard, ensuring clear separation of pedestrians, forklifts, and trucks.
Ensure all trailers are unloaded safely and efficiently, reducing downtime and maximizing productivity.
Outbound Logistics
Oversee the dispatch of finished goods and containers, ensuring shipments are completed on time and cost-effectively.
Liaise with logistics providers to schedule and coordinate outbound shipments efficiently.
Ensure proper documentation and compliance for all outbound loads, minimising delays and operational disruptions.
Work with sales and planning teams to align dispatch schedules with customer requirements.
Customer Service, Performance Management, and Reporting
Act as the first escalation point for collection complaints, ensuring timely resolution and reporting.
Ensure operations are cost-efficient and aligned with budgetary targets.
Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for collection, transport, and yard operations, implementing improvements where necessary.
Prepare and analyse weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc performance reports, ensuring visibility of operational efficiency.
Maintain and update operational systems (CYRUS, Ctrack, ActinTime, weighbridge reports) to improve data-driven decision-making.
Provide regular updates to the General Manager and senior leadership on operational performance, challenges, and strategic improvements.
Support continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing processes to enhance service levels and reduce costs.
