As a member of the triumvirate leadership team the successful candidate will be involved with strategic decisions about the Pathology with delegated responsibility from the Clinical Director for some of these decisions & their operationalisation.

Adding to the leadership team and help create the strategic direction required to bring together our teams in the delivery of a patient-focused, cost-effective and high-quality services. The post holder will be innovative, and patient focused and provide leadership for healthcare scientists in pathology as well has having a major role in the quality, IT, training and Point of Care Testing functions of the pathology leadership team.
Main duties of the job
The role will help shape the strategic direction of the service, and you will work closely with the Pathology Manager, Clinical Director and Heads of Service of the Pathology modalities across all UHB sites. Service transformation will be part of the role, and the successful candidate will work with the BSOL transformation manager to develop and drive change within UHB pathology and its partners.
You will hold a relevant professional registration and will have experience of leading and managing within pathology. You must have the ability to be creative and innovative to generate opportunities for the service, be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of commercial and business principles and have experience of involvement with strategic planning processes.
The appointee will assist the Director of Pathology and other members of the pathology management team in providing a comprehensive, cost effective and high-quality Pathology service in our laboratories which are UKAS accredited. The appointee will represent the healthcare scientists at relevant Trust and Pathology meetings as required and will contribute to service improvement as well as facilitating delivery of current service provision. The successful candidate will be expected to be an experienced HCPC Registered Healthcare Scientist. We welcome applications from both Clinical and Biomedical Scientists.

Essential
* MSc degree or equivalent in specialty of Clinical Biochemistry
* Fellow of Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS)
* Higher Specialist at Doctorate level or Equivalent
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* HCPC (Health Care Professionals Council) Registration as Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist
* Evidence of formal NHS training commensurate with a senior NHS manager for example, interview skills, discipline management, financial management etc.

* Extensive experience post registration to include Senior Managerial posts at Band 8a and 8b or equivalent in an acute NHS provider or equivalent complex health care provider managing several services/ departments to include managing governance, health and safety, workforce and capacity demand and finance.
* Advanced specialist knowledge of discipline
* Demonstrable experience of leading change & problem solving in clinical settings, patient care and experience
* Evidence and experience in delivering operational and strategic performance including strategic safe staffing and skill mix reviews, infection control, risk management, complaints and adverse incidents across range of services
* Demonstrable appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, NHS England and individual provider and commissioning organisations -- demonstrates breadth and depth of understanding of current NHS policy and ability to interpret and implement in practice
