My client are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Controls Engineer to join their growing team. You will be part of a team of skilled engineers providing solutions for a multitude of manufacturing industries. The company designs, manufactures and installs a wide range of complex automated systems using the very latest robotics, servo, PLC and vision systems combined with innovative design to deliver the full product life cycle.
TITLE: Controls Engineer
REPORTING TO: Engineering Manager
SALARY: £45 -60k + overtime rates available

THE ROLE
1. As controls engineer you will be working alongside mechanical and electrical design engineers to design, programme and commission bespoke automation machinery.
2. You will be utilising your skills and experience to write full machinery PLC software from scratch, create screens and programme HMI's, programme a range of robots and produce supporting technical documentation.
3. You will also play a key role in departmental and company continuous improvements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Determine customer/process requirements from discussions and technical documentation.
2. Produce customer sign off and technical documentation such as functional design specifications and system manuals.
3. Fully test and commission the equipment and machinery to ensure a successful FAT & SAT.
4. Programme a range of robots including ABB, KUKA, FANUC, Yaskawa.
5. Provide a high level of skill in interpreting the customers and regulatory requirements to ensure software designs are perfectly aligned.
6. Ensure relevant software design documents are issued in line with the schedule, enabling project deadlines to be met.
7. Liaise with suppliers to ensure suitable equipment function and operation within cost and schedule.
8. Liaise with electrical design and mechanical engineers to determine suitable system requirements.
9. Communicate accurate project status to the project leads, enabling pro-active planning.
10. Alongside the wider design team produce required technical documentation complying with UK and international standards and machinery directive, including risk assessments and machinery manuals.
11. Provide site support for customer meetings, projects scoping and SAT activities.
KEY SKILLS
1. Experience with Siemens and Rockwell programming software. (TIA Portal, RSLogix, WinCC etc).
2. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
3. Willingness to travel (within the UK and abroad).
4. Possess a good understanding of engineering principles in control system design.
5. Good level of problem-solving skills.
6. An ability to deliver simple solutions to technical problems.
7. Excellent time management and ability to prioritise.
8. Experience in carrying out technical calculations.
9. Excellent personal motivation and ability to handle pressure.
10. Experience in bespoke/special purpose machine building and design.
11. Experience with robotics and automation.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
1. Degree/equivalent or higher in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, or Computer Science.
2. HND, HNC, BTEC.
