The DWP Estates function ensures the smooth and efficient operation of this network on a day-to-day basis. We manage a private sector supply chain that delivers essential services such as security guarding, maintenance, property and leasehold, construction, cleaning and facilities management. Many of these services are business critical and we cannot safely open our offices without them.

This role will support the Business Case Assurance team along with additional responsibilities for the wider Governance and Control Team where required, by ensuring the Directorate adheres to legal standards and in-house policies, standards and procedures. It will work as an ambassador along with colleagues providing advice, support and guidance on all matters of compliance and risk to the business supporting the cultural transformation we aspire to, whilst preserving the Authorities integrity by making sure it stays on a lawful and ethical course.
You will focus heavily on assurance across the Estates Directorate and its supply chain partners in legal and wider standards; encompassing the sets of regulations that govern properties and their components, in-house policies, standards and procedures across the portfolio.
Key accountabilities
* Support the development, implementation and maintaining of a control framework/systems to prevent or deal with violations of legal guidelines and internal policies, communicating in a straightforward, honest and engaging manner, choosing appropriate styles to maximise understanding and impact.
* Support the development, implementation and maintaining of Assurance framework’s that will ensure Real Estate and Property legislation, policies and processes are efficiently and effectively managed across the Directorate.
* Evaluate the efficiency of controls and improve them continuously, working with others to identify areas for improvement and simplify processes to use fewer resources.
* Work across DWP to support the assurance that Business Case templates/ approvals process is appropriate, updated and meets the needs for Governance & Control team as appropriate.
* Draft, modify, obtain approval for and where relevant, support implementation of policies and procedures.
* Keep abreast of regulatory developments within or outside of the Authority as well as evolving best practices in compliance control remaining alert to emerging issues and trends which may impact your work area.
* Ensure that you are fully up to date and aware of all product, compliance and submission requirements for business cases, to various levels and across various departments to provide clear guidance and expertise for Estates requirements.
* Coordinate and expedite Estates related applications and business cases, supporting key internal stakeholders with guidance and ongoing control of efficient and effective practice.
* Preparing MI reports relevant to the Governance & Control Team.
* Undertake internal audit activities as part of Estates Audit Programme which helps to drive and ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
* Support the management of related Business Service Level Agreements, reporting via dashboards and communicating to key stakeholders.
* Support the wider Governance & Compliance team where required.
