Working Hours: Monday to Friday – 8:30am to 4:30pm
The recruitment group is working with an independent school where Autism is their first language. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody to join a fantastic team in a superb location.
Our client is looking for a Handy Man to work across three different sites doing general maintenance duties.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Ensure a clean, tidy and well-maintained school environment (buildings and grounds).
* Proactively identify maintenance requirements across the sites by carrying out regular site maintenance/safety inspections.
* Monitor and report health & safety concerns, taking immediate action to mitigate any risks.
* Order materials and equipment required with sign off from Senior Premises Officer and/or the Head of Compliance.
* Manage the maintenance, replacement and repair of buildings and grounds, including electrics, plumbing, heating, glass wear, door removals, painting and decorating.
* Use a range of mechanised and non-mechanised tools as necessary to complete tasks.
* Attend training as necessary, work safely, and maintain accurate computerised records.
* Maintain buildings and amenities, including the management of site waste.
* Report and repair non-structural hazards in agreement with landlords.
* Consult and liaise with service companies and contractors when required.
* Respond to emergencies such as floods, illegal entries, and fire.
* Communicate timely with relevant managers/Heads of base regarding intended works.
* Fulfill all duties with compassion, understanding, and acknowledgment of the needs of the learners.
Experience/Knowledge Requirements:
* Craft skills, e.g. basic plumbing, basic electrical tasks, decorating, or previous experience in a caretaking role.
* Experience with mechanised and non-mechanised DIY tools (e.g. drills, screwdrivers).
* Experience in painting/decorating.
* Clean driving license & business insurance.
* Motivation and initiative.
* Self-starter, able to work without supervision.
* Flexible approach to working hours, as some activities may need to be conducted outside of school operating hours.
* Ability to undertake risk assessments related to premises function.
* Ability to highlight unsafe practices and risks to the Senior Leadership Team.
* Knowledge of moving and handling procedures and physically able to carry out tasks (e.g. lifting, moving, gritting, clearing snow).
