Job Title: Transport Risk Assessor Starting Salary: £33,366 progressing to £36,124 Hours: 37.0 Location: Stevenage Contract Type: Permanent & 1 year Fixed Term Contract Directorate: Growth & Environment About the team The Integrated Passenger Transport Unit (IPTU) sits within Environment and Growth Department. The IPTU delivers transport services for home to school mainstream and special educational needs transport and Adult Care Services ensuring passengers have access to a high quality, efficient journey. The team is made up of 8 contracts transport planners who are responsible for managing contracted transport and link in with the risk assessor role. About the role The main purpose of the post is to ensure the safe transportation of pupils attending Special Educational Needs and Disabilities schools (SEND) across Hertfordshire. The post is primarily based at Farnham House, Stevenage but most of the work will be off site at other locations within the county i.e. schools. We are recruiting for 2 Transport Risk Assessors who will be working on different workstreams detailed below. Permanent role: You will be responsible for carrying out individual risk assessments for SEND pupils across the county. The risk assessments will cover pupils with additional health needs and/or challenging behaviour. To liaise with parents/carers and schools for all new transport referrals, for some pupils, face to face risk assessment will be required, which will include checking that wheelchairs are suitable for being transported safely i.e. crash tested. Fixed Term role: The post will oversee all individual risk assessments for SEND pupils across the county with additional health needs. You will work closely with the unit's Training and Quality Officer who oversees training through the NHS for contracted transport staff. To help gain an understanding when drafting guidance notes for transport staff, you will need to attend face to face or via the internet training with the NHS nurses for specific medical needs. About you Essential : Excellent communication skills to deal with a wide range of stakeholders writing and oral skills Able to work on own initiative, taking decisions and being accountable for them Deals effectively with pressure and works to deadlines Experience and/or knowledge of undertaking and overseeing risk assessments Experience and/or knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities Please note for the permanent role you will need access to a vehicle as it is essential to enable postholder to visit parents/carers and schools Good time management and organisational skills Desirable Access to a vehicle is desirable for the fixed term role to enable you to visit parents/carers and schools or attend any face-to-face training with the NHS We welcome applications from candidates who currently reside in the UK with established proof of right to work documentation.
