Job Summary
Do you want to develop your career in theatres; attain a Bachelor of Science Degree and become a qualified Operating Department Practitioner, all whilst being paid? Come and join our theatre department as a trainee ODP and enjoy the support of a dedicated team whilst training.
We are seeking committed, enthusiastic, compassionate, and caring individuals who have a passion for theatres to join our apprenticeship Trainee ODP program. This is a three-year apprenticeship which includes clinical placements in a variety of clinical settings as well as academic study in the University setting.
On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will be able to register as an ODP with the HCPC, and then apply for a Band 5 position within our Theatre or IR departments.
All original certificates will need to be presented before your interview for process from both the Trust and the University. Failure to share these documents as part of the process will mean that you will not be able to advance to interview.
Main Duties of the Job
You will need to work full time for the duration of the program and will do your training across more than one site. You will also be expected to undertake study in your own time.
You will learn all aspects of peri-operative care, and become proficient in the anaesthetic, scrub and recovery area within the scope of an ODP.
All successful candidates will need to submit an online application to BCU within a set timeframe to be able to be accepted onto the course. As part of the process you must also complete your care certificate within the first 3 months if not already done so.
Anyone new to theatres will have an extended period at the beginning of their training within the theatre area.

Qualifications Essential
* Applicants must demonstrate and provide physical certificate which demonstrate the entry requirements to be accepted onto the agreed provider Universities programme.
* Essential Qualifications/ Certificates at Level 2.
* A minimum of 3 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above (formally C), which must include English Language / Maths and a science or equivalent.
* Acceptable GCSE Equivalents for science: BTEC extended certificate in science or applied science Level 2, BTEC diploma in science or applied science Level 2, Intermediate GNVQ.
* Acceptable GCSE Equivalents for English: Functional Skills English Level 2.
* Acceptable GCSE Equivalents for Maths: Functional Skills Maths Level 2.
