Health Care Support Worker
Band 2 (full and part time hours available)
An exciting opportunity has opened for a Health Care Support Worker role on Scotter Ward, John Coupland Hospital.
Scotter Ward, consists of both inpatient rehabilitation and palliative care beds, allowing patients who are over their acute phase of illness to be transferred closer to home to continue their care. We are proud to work in close partnership with community therapy and specialist services and have links with Macmillan, St Barnabas and other specialist services and community nursing teams.
The successful applicant will have a flexible approach to work which reflects the needs of the busy clinical area. The working hours include day shifts, night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
The successful candidate will assist registered nursing staff in providing high quality individualised nursing care to a clearly defined group of patients as identified in their specific care plans.

Physical effort
Moderate physical effort for short and long periods, moving, handling and positioning patients and equipment.
Mental effort
Communicating with patients and relatives with communication difficulties
Emotional effort
Dealing with difficult and emotional issues such as: caring for palliative care patients, dealing with dying patients and their relatives and carers.
Working conditions
Direct/indirect contact or exposure to body fluids.
May be exposed to violent and aggressive patients and members of the public.
Limited exposure to hazardous substances but these are controlled.
Works in an area which complies with the Health & Safety Policy.

The role involves a patient-centred and holistic approach to the care delivered. This includes assisting to meet hygiene needs, monitoring symptoms, basic wound care, and have the opportunity to develop clinical skills working closely with the registered nurses.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, under supervision, and be willing to enhance your skill base through training provision.
