Applications are invited for the position of Consultant in Emergency Medicine to commence with immediate effect. The posts will be based in the Emergency Department at Hull Royal Infirmary, part of the NHS Humber Health Partnership. The NHS Humber Health Partnership has an annual budget of circa £1.4billion, employs over 17,000 staff and sees well over 1 million patients / year with around 275000 attendances across the three Emergency Departments.
The successful applicants will be part of a team of up to 24 Consultants at Hull Royal Infirmary. Clinical duties are shared between Consultants and will include all duties normally expected of any Major Trauma Centre Emergency Department. This includes clinical and non-clinical responsibilities.
Clinical sessions will be worked in the department seeing patients for senior decision-making and supporting the junior staff. This will include evening and weekend working. The shift pattern is described below. Currently the consultant body is in negotiations with the Trust with consideration to move towards the RCEM recommended tariffs for shifts. These will include on-site rostered night shifts. Once this is agreed, the successful applicant(s) would be expected to participate in the agreed shift pattern unless due to mutually agreed exemptions. The posts will mainly be based in the adult area of ED, but would be expected to review patients, give advice to clinicians and also have an oversight of the paediatric ED.
A standard full time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities.
Participation in audit/appraisal and CME is mandatory under clinical governance/GMC guidance. Successful applicants will be expected to support deliver the junior staff induction program, departmental, regional and medical school teaching, as well as continued personal training development in areas identified in the appraisal process and supported in core objective setting in job planning.
Provision will be made within the Job Plan for CPD/Professional Development activities. Consultants will be given study leave in accordance with Trust wide policy and will also be supported to take professional leave.
The post will be based upon a job plan of 10 programmed activities, constituted as follows:
• 1.5 Core SPA (to include CPD)
• 1 PA Educational Supervision/ core departmental objectives/other interests
• 7.5 DCC (including DCC Admin)
Allocation of planned activities may be negotiated to allow the post-holder to take on departmental roles such as Educational Supervision, teaching, clinical governance, etc and the above split is an indicative example.
