YOUR IMPACT
We are looking for a junior derivatives lawyer to join the Global Banking & Markets legal team, focusing on supporting our EMEA equity derivatives trading desks. The role involves a mix of transactional, trading and regulatory advice on a broad range of equity derivative products from high profile structured transactions to our innovative proprietary indices.
We are looking for candidates with a good grounding in derivatives. Any experience in equities or index products would be helpful, but is not a requirement - we are more interested in your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. You will work extensively with colleagues in our broader global banking and markets legal team as well as the wider legal division and with stakeholders in investment banking, sales and trading, compliance, and operations in multiple locations across the globe.
The role sits within a team of seven lawyers, split between London, Birmingham, Frankfurt and Warsaw covering the full spectrum of equity products and trading activities including our proprietary index business, alternative fund structuring team, flow and strategic equity derivatives and margin lending.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Advising trading businesses on a variety of regulatory, documentation, risk management and cross-border legal issues
2. Analysing the legal and regulatory impacts for a variety of cross-border products, in particular in relation to innovative algorithmic indices, hedging and financing structures and market access products
3. Advising on the interpretation and practical impact of regulatory reforms on the equities business
4. Assisting with the structuring, negotiation and drafting of transactional documents, including coordination with external counsel
5. Providing equity product expertise internally in the legal division and across the firm on regulatory implementation and business change projects
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
6. At least 2 years post qualification relevant experience in a law firm or in-house
7. Some derivatives experience is essential, specific equities knowledge is helpful but not a requirement
8. Familiarity with the regulations relevant to derivatives and/or equity markets
9. Intellectual curiosity that will enable you to develop in the team, learn about our businesses and effectively identify legal and regulatory issues
10. Ability to prioritise work effectively, be pro-active in a challenging business environment and to respond to client demands in a timely manner
11. Team player with strong interpersonal skills, who can work successfully with a diverse range of stakeholders including trading and sales personnel, global control functions and legal specialists globally.
