The 11th (Royal School of Signals) Signal Regiment (11(RSS) SR) based at Blandford Forum in Dorset delivers world class technical IT and CIS training to sailors, soldiers and aviators across a variety of engineering disciplines. W e specialise in training IT and CIS to prepare Defence personnel for their current and future roles as Defence IT and CIS engineers. 11(RSS) SR is part of the Defence School of CIS, which in turn is part of the Defence College of Technical Training (DCTT) which is responsible for delivering all technical training across Defence to meet the operational demands of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. Job description 11(RSS) SR at Blandford Camp is actively seeking technical specialists, with an ability to contribute effectively within a high performing team. You will be involved in developing Defence personnel by delivering technical training programmes that will develop them as engineers and technicians within the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Airforce. The successful candidates will be expected work within 11(RSS) SR and will be responsible for the instruction of military students in a range of theoretical and practical disciplines focused within the fields of IT and CIS. We are particularly interested in candidates from an academic, engineering or technical background in IT and CIS who may wish to start a second career as a trainer/teacher. Full training to enable successful technicians and engineers to transition to a teaching environment is available. We have job opportunities for Specialist Instructional Officers (SIOs) available in the following subject area: Military Power Generating and Distribution Systems In accordance with SIO MPD Defence Policy, you will be specifically responsible for: Delivering technical training, ensuring conformity to authorised specifications. Providing an exciting, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Producing lesson plans and associated course materials to support student-centric learning, including integration of Literacy and Numeracy into lessons to Defence specification. Ensuring compliance with personal responsibilities to students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)/Specialist Educational Needs. Acting as a Role Model, ensuring that the highest standards of behaviour are maintained in accordance with the Defence Trainer Code of Conduct & Civil Service Code of Conduct. Monitoring student welfare and processing any concerns through the chain of command in accordance with the Supervisory Care Directive. Undertaking the role of examination invigilator, ensuring any concessions or specialist requirements are carried out. Highlighting discrepancies and assisting the Examinations Management team to review any examination questions that are not valid. Contributing to continuous improvement; maintaining own specialist subject matter expertise (knowledge and skills) and specialist subject content; undertaking a minimum of 5 hours Continuous Professional Development (CPD) per annum to address developmental goals. Contributing to own continuous improvement; personally, arranging for Instructional Techniques/Teaching Practice and Lesson Content Monitoring observations to be undertaken. Participating in internal and external evaluation audits as required. Person specification The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative and capable of inspiring young service personnel from diverse backgrounds. You will be a good communicator, able to explain complex information in a clear and easily understood way to different audiences. You will be required to be both proactive and reactive, assessing the skills and knowledge of trainees within the classroom and determining what support is needed to grow and nurture these individuals. Specific Criteria for: Military Power Generating and Distribution Systems. The successful candidate will possess recognised experience/background as a qualified electrician with experience in operating and maintaining portable power generating and distribution systems equipment to deliver training in military portable power systems to future Royal Signals Power Engineers. We are particularly interested in candidates from an engineering or technical background with experience of the following: City and Guilds 2382 (18th Edition). City & Guilds 2377 (In Service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment). City & Guilds 2391-52 (Inspection & Testing of Electrical Installations). Experience of; operating military power generation and distribution systems (2KW lightweight generator and FEPS trailer mounted towed generators of 8/12 KW, 16/24 KW and 40 KW). Maintaining (up to level 3) of military generators and power distribution equipment including diagnosis, strip, test/repair and re-assembly. Mechanical engineering principles (diesel engines). Electrical engineering principles Shock protection. Basic workshop engineering skills using hand and power tools. Equipment care Experience of design and commissioning of military power distribution systems is desirable however training is available for the successful candidate. Role Specific Training: Defence Trainer course (DTc) as applicable. Successfully shadow appropriate training modules according to specialism. Compliance with SIO Competency framework. Qualifications Candidates should have served a recognised relevant apprenticeship or a relevant period of training and have obtained a Level 3, or equivalent, engineering qualification, with practical experience in a related field.
