Job summary
To assist in providing and maintaining a high quality and friendly diagnostic imaging service for patients and clinicians alike in all areas of Radiology department.
Providing support and assistance to radiographers and radiologists during x-ray examinations and specialised imaging procedures, including CT, chaperoning patients during radiological and ultrasound examinations, preparing trolleys for sterile and non-sterile investigations, supervision of in- patients/A+E patients in the waiting area and providing clerical support including inputting data onto computers in order to maintain patient records.
These posts will include some evening and weekend working to provide support during extending working days in all modalities.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The Radiology Department staff are a friendly, hard-working and highly dedicated team who work together to provide diagnostic imaging services to in-patients, out-patients, A+E, GP, Maternity & Paediatric patients.
The departments utilise CR and DR systems for all plain film imaging and have a well - established Trust wide PACS system. We have an ongoing major equipment replacement programme in partnership with GE Healthcare. Staff can be assured, therefore, that they will be working with new equipment/technology in all areas of Radiology.
We actively promote CPD and staff development and some of our RDA's have progressed onto the Apprentice Radiographer programme and are currently studying to become qualified radiographers.
Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust has received funding to provide a Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Southport and to support this we are installing a 2nd CT scanner on both the ODGH & SDGH site.
These developments will reduce waiting times for key tests and support work around delivering better outcomes for patients across both sites, while providing top quality facilities closer to home for many people in the area.
To provide physical care and psychological support for the patient during their stay in the Radiology Department.
To ensure effective internal and external 2-way communication with patients, carers and all other health professionals regarding all aspects of patient care.
To provide support and assistance to Radiographers during x-ray examinations and specialised imaging procedures.
To chaperone patients during Radiological, Ultrasound, CT and MRI (Southport Site) examinations and to give a preliminary explanation of the procedure.
To prepare trolleys for non-sterile investigations, barium investigations.
To prepare trolleys for sterile procedures and assist the Radiologist during interventional procedures.
Decontamination of work area following examination of infectious patients.
To ensure that imaging rooms and work areas are kept clean and tidy at all times.
