As Data Engineering Manager you will assist in the provision of a new Data Strategy and implementing a new Enterprise Data Hub across the Pavers Group. This is a great opportunity to help shape the future landscape of Data and Analytics using cutting edge technologies. You will report to the Head of Data and manage a small team of Data experts. Key Responsibilities for our Data Engineering Manager Responsible and accountable for the working practices, output and development of a team made of individual contributors Responsible for defining the day-to-day deliverables for one team, which contribute to a wider deliverable within their discipline/area Ensure that suitable tech leads within your squad are appointed to projects at the earliest opportunity Responsible for coordinating and developing technical/product enhancements within their team and providing direction and leadership on these Be an active participant in setting technical strategy across Data Engineering Maintain and uphold the SDLC, and drive improvements to working practices Facilitate the Acceptance into Service process for any Services your team delivers Enable changes to be implemented timely with adequate documentation, monitoring and alerting Be an effective member of your squad's leadership team Drive the momentum of your squad's delivery at a sustainable pace Contribute to the squad's roadmap planning Will directly line manage a team within a specific discipline area and ensure processes are followed, based on knowledge of their discipline, including conducting regular 121s, performance discussions, and check-ins with your direct reports Hold regular personal and career development conversations with your direct reports Highly influential with impact on performance and team improvements within their immediate team Perform typical HR duties such as holiday and expense reviews, absence logging, performance reviews Coaches and mentors the less experienced members of the team and guides collaborative problem solving Participate in defining and documenting the relevant strategies for your services Engage with product managers where necessary on forward planning and drive team focus on delivery goals and value Lead by example on transparent communication Ensure that business expectations are always set realistically Influence and promote agreed team and department standards Ensure effective collaboration takes place with other teams involved in projects Help to resolve any manageable issues and deviation from plan Proactively stay abreast of emerging tools and techniques and lead discussion around how these might be adopted Proactively promote and share knowledge throughout the team to eliminate single points of failure Promote a team spirit and work ethic that motivates workstream team members as well as increasing productivity and quality Help your team prioritise effectively, and allow for shifting priorities Set clear measures of success and track progress against them Understand business and solution context to facilitate conversations between technical & non-technical groups Proactively identify and address problems in application quality and tooling Identify and champion the removal of waste from our delivery processes Participate in knowledge sharing, technical and non-technical discussions in the team and beyond About you Results driven track record demonstrating relevant experience in data management, and leadership roles, having led complex initiatives from inception to successful execution to create value for businesses and customers across complex organisations. Ability to build strong relationships quickly, both internally to cut through complexity for the team and with key external partners to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes. Expertise in uniting people across all business levels, adapting leadership styles to motivate diverse team members within a matrix organisation. Practical experience in bringing data management to life through a clear and compelling vision, driving the strategic execution of plans. Well-versed in data management and data governance disciplines, particularly data quality, data cataloguing, metadata management, data lineage, master data management and reference data. Credible leader with strong values, impeccable integrity, and an instinct for making sound decisions. Impressive record in learning and developing self and others, accompanied by first-class communication skills and an ability to translate technical complexity into business impact and value. A background in software engineering, primarily Kafka, Kubernetes, Python, and R as well as experience in both agile and non-agile delivery practices will enable you to take data to the next level.
