Supply Director – Seed Co-operative
Remote working
Job Description
The Seed Cooperative’s mission is to support the collective work of those striving to make agroecological farming and food sovereignty a reality. The Seed Co-operative grows, processes, and sells open-pollinated organic and biodynamic seed for professional and recreational growers. Its shareholders are mainly the community of growers it serves.
The successful candidate will have personal and professional credibility with proven seed production and supply experience. The role requires strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities and networking capabilities.
Most of the work can be undertaken remotely. The six Board meetings a year will be held in person at various locations within the UK when circumstances allow. Visits to growers around the UK will be part of the role, though some can be done by phone/Zoom.
The time commitment estimate is 42 days per year for an initial 3-year period. This is essentially a pro-bono position, although a modest honorarium is available if needed, plus travelling expenses and project work can be paid.
Purpose:
To optimise the range, availability, cost, and quality of seeds to match customer demand.
To expand and engage the Growers Network and support the development of the quality and cost-effectiveness of the growers in the UK network.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop, maintain, and monitor a rolling three-year supply plan.
2. Engage with and foster the education of current and new growers in the UK network.
3. Contribute to the development and maintenance of an integrated strategic plan for the business as a whole.
