We are looking for a full time Teaching Assistant to work 35 hours per week, during term time only in the Inclusion Department at Bury Grammar School and based predominantly in the Senior School.
Although this is a fixed term position, there is the possibility of this being extended .
A willingness to be flexible, creative and proactive is vital, as well as a genuine care for the progress of our pupils. The role of the SEND Teaching Assistant is to deliver one-to-one and small group support sessions to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and support the work of the Inclusion Department.
They are responsible to the SENDCo and Senior Teacher Inclusion.
Purpose:
· To provide individualised support to pupils with SEND
· To support the Inclusion Department and the Academic and Pastoral teams in establishing and maintaining high standards of pupil achievement
· To provide high quality SEND support to pupils at Bury Grammar School and to monitor and evaluate its impact
· To nurture the ethos and values of Bury Grammar School in pupils, supporting them with their learning
· To contribute to a healthy, safe, happy and challenging environment in which pupils work hard, develop mutual respect for each other and achieve their potential
· To support the Academic team with cover arrangements – both classroom cover and invigilation
Key duties and responsibilities:
1. Pupil SEND Support:
· To plan and deliver appropriate support sessions tailored to individual needs, working with subject teachers and the pastoral team, to make sure that pupils make sustained progress
· Supporting pupils in their learning via timetabled one-to-one or group sessions
· Support and advise teachers in relation to the progress of pupils
· Liaise with the SENDCo and the Pastoral Team as appropriate to produce individual action plans
· Contribute to the academic support and guidance offered to pupils
· To ensure that pupils receive support appropriate to their needs by removing barriers to learning and developing effective learning behaviours
· Lead and assist in the follow-up action plans and strategies to improve attainment, attitude and progress of pupils
· Establish and maintain supportive relationships with staff and parents with the clear aim of providing the most appropriate support for pupils
· Plan and deliver bespoke study skills sessions for individual pupils
· Maintain records to demonstrate the positive impact of support provided
2. SEND Administration and Monitoring
· Supporting the SENDCo with monitoring the SEND referral system
· Assisting the SENDCo with the screening of pupils and maintaining Pupil Profiles
· Attending and contributing to Inclusion Team meetings as appropriate
· Providing administration support as required by the Inclusion Department
· Liaise with Senior Deputy Head (Academic and Admissions) to ensure timetables for sessions are accurate
3. Invigilation of examinations
· Assist with invigilation for both internal and external examinations
· Remain up-to-date with access arrangement information for pupils
4. Hub supervision
· Supervise the Pupil Hub at break and lunchtime as required
· Plan and deliver lunchtime support sessions
