Associate Practitioner - Occupational Therapy
We are seeking an Associate Practitioner of Occupational Therapy (APOT) to work within a developing Occupational Therapy hub within the progressive and fast-paced mental health crisis and intervention team and provide interventions to people within the community.
We are looking for individuals with an interest in working with people who have mental health problems and complex needs.
We want people who adapt to changing environments and who can be an active member of the MDT promoting occupational therapy.
The post would be suitable for a confident and enthusiastic band 4 (or an experienced band 3 who is ready to progress), to join our team.
The team is based at Miranda House and is multidisciplinary focused and includes Nursing, Occupational Therapy, social workers, Nursing associates, associate practitioners, Health care assistants, psychiatry, and administration.
The team covers the Hull and East Riding geographical patch so flexibility is required. The Occupational therapy team focuses on assessment of needs and identifying patient pathways.
The OT service is guided by the MOHO model of practice with the opportunity to be involved in developing intervention plans alongside the MDT. Training will be provided around the models of practice, standardised and non-standardised assessments, and intervention plans.
There is also the opportunity to work alongside APOT's within other mental health services.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will support the occupational therapy team and wider team in carrying out assessments and effective interventions for a complex client group with a variety of mental health, sensory, physical, social, and environmental needs.
You will be expected to work under minimal supervision and carry out assessments and treatment plans agreed with the occupational therapists.
This may include delivering a range of individual activities to meet their identified aims.
The Post will plan and provide interventions tailored to the client group within the framework laid down by the OT and feed back to the OT and MDT accordingly. Interventions may include: daily living skills sessions, engagement in meaningful activity, routine-based skills, community skills including graded exposure, regulation techniques, and social activities.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable with people in distress and can utilise effective communication and interpersonal skills.
The post holder will need to prioritise their own workload and use their initiative when working within a busy crisis team.
There will be an opportunity to identify an area of interest and be a part of developing the services within the crisis team around this topic.
There may also be an opportunity to supervise junior staff and be involved in the education of students within the service.
