An opportunity has arisen for a maternity leave cover for a Ward Manager on Starlight Ward; our 17 bedded Haematology, Oncology (HOB) and BMT Unit within BRHC.
As the Principle Treatment Centre for the South-west here at BRHC, we care for children across the South-west and work closely with the Operational Delivery Network and our hospital teams within the region.
A dedicated Sisters Forum operates monthly within BRHC, and if successful, you would have the opportunity to gain peer support and networking throughout BRHC fostering a hospital-wide focus for our leadership team.
We welcome applications from enthusiastic, dynamic and visible leaders with a proven track record of management and organisational skills and the ability to demonstrate exceptional clinical leadership. Creative thinking and problem-solving skills are essential; experience within the field of Paediatrics or HOB is desirable but not essential. Full-time would be preferred, but part-time options would be considered.
Main duties of the job
The sister/charge nurse is accountable and responsible for the 24-hour care delivery and management of the ward/area. The sister/charge nurse will promote and monitor safe and effective practice, enhance the patient experience, provide effective leadership and management, and contribute to the delivery of the Trust/Divisional objectives.
The sister/charge nurse will:
* Be supervisory to practice
* Be responsible for professional day-to-day clinical leadership and operational management of the ward.
* Ensure delivery of high-quality, responsive, safe, efficient and compassionate care.
* Support the Matron in developing the service.
* Act as a leader and role model, adopting a flexible approach in a role which encompasses leadership, management and clinical responsibilities.
* Demonstrate pride in their work and enthusiasm for quality of care.
Qualifications & Training
* RSCN Part 8 / RN (Child Branch, Part 15) or RN
* Post basic certificate or related study in neonatal critical care
* Degree in related area of clinical practice or very clear evidence of degree level study in the last 2 years
Knowledge and Experience
* Previous Band 6 experience in relevant area
* Teaching experience
* Mentoring and Assessing or Teaching qualification
* Demonstrate leadership skills and knowledge
Skills and Abilities
* Basic computer skills and competent to use windows-based programs
* Self-motivated and able to motivate others
* Good problem-solving ability and skills
* Evidence of ability to use initiative, lead a team and manage change
* Ability to manage when under both individual and/or work pressure
* Good interpersonal communication and time management skills
* Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own and work of others
* Assertive and proactive
* Possess a high level of skill and competency in relevant area of practice
* Research and audit experience
