Job summary This is a rare opportunity to join a new and exciting research initiative with Velindre University NHS Trust, Cardiff University and Cardiff and Vale UHB in the merging Cardiff Cancer Research Hub. Our aim is to work across organisations to deliver translational research creating close working relationships between clinicians and scientists. The role can be mainly laboratory based, working with one or more of our pre-clinical teams or more clinically orientated by bringing new therapies to patients. The role will be supported by a laboratory technician and a consumables budget for an initial five years if the chosen research area requires. Cardiff University is in the process of developing Advanced Treatments such as Oncolytic Vaccines and Cellular Based Therapies as well as small molecules. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. Main duties of the job Overall it will form part of our goals for: Developing an integrated working plan with our Haemato-oncology colleagues and driving plans to deliver Early Phase Trials across Velindre and University Hospital of Wales (UHW) sites aligning with the Cardiff Cancer Research Hub ambitions. Advancing collaborations with Cardiff University scientists, Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) and Wales Cancer Research Centre (WCRC) to deliver bench to bedside projects with a Cardiff generated molecule/therapy. Designing and delivering investigator-led Early Phase Clinical Trials with Cardiff Chief Investigators through interaction with Industry, Academic colleagues, Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and Cancer Research Wales (CRW). Developing a broad, well-balanced Early Phase Clinical Trial portfolio including both commercial and academic investigator-led studies. Expanding our portfolio of Early Phase Drug-Radiotherapy Combination Clinical Trials and joining a network with other UK centres being currently set-up to deliver these. This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service.
