The Position
We are seeking an innovative and dynamic Fire Engineer to join our London team. You will report to the Section Manager, supporting the delivery of a range of projects for NDY’s clients. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about fire engineering and possesses the knowledge and competencies necessary to perform independent work.
Key Responsibilities:
* Produce detailed fire strategies and all necessary supporting calculations and assessments to fulfil the design obligations of each project.
* Undertake fire engineering design activities, including assisting with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and evacuation modelling of complex building geometries.
* Lead fire safety design elements of projects and liaise effectively with internal and external project teams, clients, approvals authorities, and other stakeholders to deliver projects.
* Conduct fire risk assessments across a variety of property types, from residential to commercial.
* Provide quality and technical monitoring on construction projects and review contractors’ proposals, providing comments on suitability for the intended purpose.
* Ensure work is compliant with client expectations and contractual obligations.
* Develop fire strategies reports and performance-based designs.
* Review design documents and drawings to ensure they meet fire safety standards.
* Apply established principles, codes, and standards to solve fire engineering issues.
* Provide guidance and support to junior staff members.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
* Understanding of standards such as BS9999, BS7974, Approved Document B, Health Technical Memorandum 05-02, Building Bulletins, and relevant British Standards.
* Knowledge of fire engineering challenges from client brief to construction and operation.
* Excellent report writing and communication skills, with a collaborative, creative, and engaging approach.
* Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and handle numerous demands and deliverables.
* Proactive in resolving issues and creating solutions, with the ability to seek assistance when needed.
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and smoke modelling software (CFD, CFAST, etc.).
* Familiarity with Autodesk Revit or 3D modelling software is an advantage.
Who We’re Looking For
* A minimum of a bachelors' degree in engineering or a science discipline relevant to the role.
* Achieved Chartered Status or working towards a relevant professional registration or qualification.
* A minimum of three years engineering experience across the full project lifecycle with a focus on delivering projects.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information verbally and in writing with stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
* Ability to assess change and manage ambiguity effectively.
* Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise initiative and independent judgement.
* Politically astute with team members and clients, capable of consistently producing accurate work without errors.
* Willingness to accept and implement constructive feedback.
