Description
St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School is seeking a part-time high school assistant swim coach for the 2025-2026 school year.
The Assistant Coach fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by developing, initiating, and administering the program in a particular sport which adequately prepares the student athlete for interscholastic competition. The Assistant Coach is recommended to the Principal by the Athletic Director, hired by the President. This position reports to the Athletic Director and is evaluated by the Principal in consultation with the Athletic Director.
Ministerial Character
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ's mission present and enduring in the schools. In order to fulfill Christ's mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ's mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities.
Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of the School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description. The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the School leaders in the performance of their ministry and, therefore, engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Duties
1. Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
2. Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
3. Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of school and Diocese
4. Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
5. Models professional conduct and sensible sportsmanship while instilling these characteristics within team members
6. Conducts practice sessions and games according to local diocesan and school policy and league regulations
7. Schedules practices and games in consultation with the Head Coach and the Athletic Director
8. Verifies student eligibility to practice and participate by completion of physicals, release/hold harmless, and registration
9. Monitors the physical condition and fitness of participants and reports injuries to parents and school officials
10. Continually monitors and supervises all activities of the participants at all practices and games
11. Teaches essential safety skills and strategies to student athletes; monitors safety compliance
12. Follows school and diocesan policies regarding academic eligibility, safety guidelines, and transportation rules
13. Distributes and collects all athletic equipment and uniforms
14. Communicates with the Assistant Coach(es) and Athletic Director regarding need for early dismissals, field, and gym use
15. Ensures that emergency contact information is available at practices and games
16. Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
17. Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, and staff
18. Able to instruct athletes about proper strategy, skills, and rules of the game
19. Able to motivate student athletes to perform optimally as an individual athlete and team member
20. Uses approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conduct
21. Collaborates with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programming
22. Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school or equivalent
Experience: Previous high school coaching and/or playing experience preferred
Certifications and Training: Current CPR certification and first aid training. Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 30 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
