Summary
***INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY PLEASE***
This is a fantastic part-time fixed-term role for a conservator to support the making of Hidden Treasures of the National Trust series 4.
You’ll work as part of a small team managing the production of the series and will be working with properties, freelance conservators, internal regional, national and remedial conservators, and the production company to ensure conservation best practice is championed.
What it's like to work here
Working in this role will be pacy and demanding. You’ll have a mix of responsibilities and may sometimes need to support filming at properties.
You’ll work with the project manager and curatorial specialist to ensure that the Trust’s staff and volunteers are presented to the highest standard. Making television is exciting and dynamic and you’ll experience first-hand what it takes to make a flagship BBC programme seen by millions.
As this is a national role, there is flexibility on your contractual place of work. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.
What you'll be doing
You’ll have weekly online meetings with the production company, frequent online calls with relevant project teams, and you’ll be checking in regularly with external conservators and both the Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio and the Textile Conservation Studio to provide support and help plan filming.
You’ll work with the transport registrar and property teams to ensure transport runs are requested and planned in time to meet the production’s schedule. You’ll maintain the planner for all conservation projects in the series and track projects as they progress, keeping an oversight of the stages of treatment, duration of work and critical deadlines.
You’ll need to handle a high volume of emails and respond promptly when needed. You’ll be a critical friend to ensure that the highest standards of conservation are represented and promoted.
Who we're looking for
We'd love to hear from you if: Qualified to degree level in a conservation specialism or equivalent achievement and practical post qualification experience in preventative and remedial conservation. Knowledge of the science, techniques, technologies and innovations in conservation and the presentation and exhibition of historic collections in a variety of contexts. Knowledge of documentation and professional standards and ethics relating to conservation and collections care. Ability to work with a range of stakeholders. Communication and influencing skills.
