Salary: £41,634 to £45,489 per annum
The School of Dental Sciences is looking for a suitably qualified dentist for the role of Clinical Fellow. This post is intended as a first step in a clinical academic career.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to teaching within the School, become actively involved in the research programme of the School, and register for a PhD under staff regulations based on one of the School’s three research themes (Educational, Translational Oral Biosciences, Applied Oral Health). The post will include funding for PhD tuition fees as well as the opportunity to take a suitable teaching qualification (such as the Newcastle Education Practice Scheme, leading to accreditation as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy subject to satisfactory completion).
Key Accountabilities:
1. Contribute to the delivery of an exceptional educational experience in both undergraduate programmes within the School (BDS and BSc Dental Therapy), and may be required to deliver teaching elsewhere in the curriculum or within one of our postgraduate programmes.
2. Take an active and significant role in the development and delivery of clinical teaching.
3. Make a contribution to the pastoral support of students.
4. Fully engage with quality assurance and enhancement processes within the School and carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support the educational programme.
5. Register for a PhD based on one of the three research themes of the School.
The Person:
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
1. Evidence of relevant formal post-graduate training (for example completion of Dental Foundation Training, Dental Core Training or equivalent).
2. Demonstrable clinical skills and experience in dentistry.
3. Experience of teaching in a dental clinical setting.
4. Knowledge of general dentistry applicable to the undergraduate programmes and curriculum within the School.
5. Some experience of research or audit.
Desirable:
1. Additional skills or training in clinical techniques beyond Dental Foundation training.
2. Experience of more than one area of practice within dental services e.g. secondary care/specialist practice/salaried dental service.

Qualifications:
1. BDS.
2. Current and full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council.
3. A teaching qualification (Higher Education Academy Fellowship or equivalent) or the expectation of completing a teaching qualification while in post.
