The Facilitating Trainer is responsible for delivering learning disability and autism training to people who work in health and social care across North Central London on behalf of the North Central London Integrated Care System (ICS).
This training is called The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism, which comprises of full day in person training sessions, as well as Teams webinars.
Training is delivered by training teams, consisting of the facilitating trainer, working with an autistic co-trainer and a co-trainer with a learning disability.
The core role involves being a training lead for your training team, responsible for training preparation, training delivery at various Trust locations across North Central London, and review and refinement of training scripts and materials as required.
As a Facilitating Trainer you will have an in-depth understanding of learning disability and autism and have solid training experience. You will lead and support expert by experience Co-trainers who will be autistic people and people with a learning disability.
• Undertake a supervisory role for expert with lived experience co-trainers, ensuring appropriate pastoral support, leadership and coaching.
• Effectively support experts with lived experience Co-trainers, ensuring they are fully included and supported in the delivery of the sessions.
• Provide reasonable adjustments to support individual needs of the training teams prior to, during and after training sessions.
• Become an NHS England-accredited Oliver McGowan Mandatory trainer.
• Lead the Oliver McGowan training teams in the preparation of training sessions, and the post-sessions review / improve cycle.
• Lead and co-deliver Oliver McGowan Mandatory training sessions.
• Help to keep training participants and the training team safe and confident in their surroundings and act on safeguarding and health and safety concerns in line with organisation policies.
• Understand the Oliver McGowan “Train the Trainer” information around the legal aspects, keeping up to date with current and emerging thinking in health and social care practice, learning disability and autism.
• Understand and respond to queries and challenges from delegates during training.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. • Become an NHS England-accredited Oliver McGowan Mandatory trainer by successfully attending the “Train the Trainer” training.
• Lead the Oliver McGowan training teams in the preparation of training sessions, and the post-sessions review / improve cycle to ensure that training is of a high quality.
• Lead and co-deliver Oliver McGowan Mandatory training sessions.
• Help to keep training participants and the training team safe and confident in their surroundings and act on safeguarding and health and safety concerns in line with organisation policies.
• Understand the “Train the Trainer” information around the following legal aspects, keeping up to date with current and emerging thinking in health and social care practice, learning disability and autism, laws of consent (UK), The Mental Capacity Act 2005, The Human Rights Act 1998, The Autism Act 2009, Do not attempt cardiovascular resuscitation case law (DNACPR), LeDeR and other associated data.
• Understand and respond to a range of complex queries and challenges from delegates during training, identifying the correct response from the range of factual and most up to date material available.
The facilitating trainer will:
• Demonstrate positivity, recognising the strengths and abilities of individuals, including people with a learning disability and autistic people who are co-trainers, and learners.
• Gain an understanding of the perspectives and personal references of each co-trainer with a learning disability and autistic co-trainer when co-facilitating, including reference to learners.
• Be patient and really listen to what is being communicated by the expert by lived experience co-trainers, and learners.
• Recognise the presentation, behaviour, and identity of people with a learning disability and autistic people, and learners, and respond with respect and compassion, without judgment.
• Value and acknowledge the experience and expertise of people with a learning disability and autistic people, and learners, enabling choice and autonomy and protecting people’s human rights at all times.
• Act with integrity, honesty, and openness, seeking to develop mutual trust in all interactions at all times.
• Recognise, respect and value people with a learning disability and autistic people’s differences and challenge negative stereotyping.
Qualifications
• Educated to degree level in relevant subjectorequivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
• Experience delivering high quality services to people with a learning disability and autistic people in a professional role such as RNLD, OT or social worker,orcan demonstrate an equivalent level of skills, knowledge, and experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of the learning cycle and its application.
Skills/competence requirements
• Clear communicator with strong presentation skills; capable of delivering concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences.
• Ability to analyse and interpret information and complex facts.
• Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands and manage potentially challenging situations.
• Experience of supporting others to plan for success, including supporting any reasonable adjustments within the team.
• Skills for manipulating information. Intermediate keyboard skills and excellent knowledge of PowerPoint
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner as part of a team, utilising good organisational skills to prioritise and manage workload.
Knowledge and experience
• Robust experience of proficient and successful delivery of face-to-face training in health and social care, or similar environment.
• Has excellent up to date working knowledge of the fields of autism and learning disability and is familiar with current issues.
• Has experience supporting and developing quality practice in others.
• Knowledge and experience of a variety of learning and development methodologies and their application, in particular: coaching, action learning, and facilitation.
• Knowledge and understanding of the learning cycle and its application.
Other requirements
• An ability to work flexibly and independently in accordance with the needs of the role, this may include covering training sessions at short notice.
• Ability to travel to locations across the five boroughs of North Central London (Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden and Islington).
• Ability to deliver training which may include distressing and/or emotional content.
