What's involved with this role: Interim Senior Solicitor - Commercial Contracts Job Ref: Bournemouth 5257696 Pay Rate: £25.13 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours Role Length: This opening assignment is for 1 month City: Bournemouth, Dorset Hybrid - Mainly remote but quarterly attendance in Bournemouth is required. Candidates must be able to travel, using public or other forms of transport where they are viable, or by holding a valid UK driving licence with access to own or pool car. The purpose of the role is to support and assist the Head of Legal Services deliver an efficient, effective and responsive service to clients advising primarily on commercial contracts, State Aid, procurement, public law and/or employment. Key Responsibilities: Provide specialist input to the Service Director and the Head of Legal Services in the delivery and improvement of its services and business strategies. Represent the Councils as and when required in all commercial/contracts legal proceedings. Deliver clear, consistent and accurate legal advice to officers, members and clients on all complex, high risk and high value matters relating to commercial contracts, State Aid, procurement, public law and/or employment and provide professional support and guidance to other team members. Procure external legal assistance when requested to do so. Take necessary action under the relevant legislation and case law and ensure appropriate professional standards are maintained in line with accepted good practice. Manage a busy caseload. Qualifications: Qualified solicitor or barrister or Chartered Legal Executive. Skills & Experience: Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation. Extensive post qualification experience in the relevant areas of the law, equivalent to PQE 5. Up to date knowledge of relevant areas of the law and proceedings. Demonstrable experience of persuasion and negotiation at a senior level. Ability to provide creative and innovative solutions to complex procedural and legal issues. Ability to work on own initiative and represent Legal Services at all levels within the authorities and externally. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
