Job Description
RC Fornax is seeking two experienced RF Engineers to work with our defence client in Edinburgh. This role involves leading the design and development of RF subsystems for next-generation surveillance radar, with a focus on antenna or receiver functions. You'll take ownership of key RF hardware components across the full engineering lifecycle and contribute to concept development.\n\nJob Responsibilities\n\n * Lead applied research and feasibility studies, providing RF architecture recommendations for next-gen digital antenna systems.\n\n * Support cross-functional teams (Digital, Systems, Software, Firmware) with RF hardware expertise.\n\n * Own and develop RF PCB assemblies (SRUs), covering the full hardware lifecycle—from requirements and prototyping to testing and production support.\n\n * Create robust designs, maintain documentation and configuration control, and lead PHDP-aligned design reviews.\n\n * Supervise junior engineers within your functional area.\n\n * Collaborate closely with Antenna and Receiver Design Authorities, and wider engineering teams.\n\n * Address integration challenges across current and future systems.\n\n * Deliver manufacturing data packs and support engineering engagement with subcontractors.\n\nEssential:\n\n * 5+ years in RF/Microwave hardware engineering at Senior or Principal level.\n\n * Expertise in end-to-end RF subsystem development, including schematic capture, prototyping, layout, and design verification.\n\n * Experience in architecture definition, technical studies, and AR investigations.\n\n * Proficient in RF design tools (e.g. AWR, ADS, SystemVue, Matlab, CST).\n\n * Knowledge of synthesiser (DDS/PLL), downconverter, digitiser, and passive microwave design.\n\n * Skilled in lab testing (spectrum and network analysis).\n\n * Radar, antenna, or receiver development background.\n\n * Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading design reviews.\n\n * Familiar with tools like Mentor for PCB design and strong in documentation and requirements capture.\n\nDesirable:\n\n * Experience with GaAs/GaN MMICs and non-linear circuit simulation.\n\n * Understanding of low phase noise design and measurement.\n\n * Experience in design for manufacture and cost.\n\n * Familiarity with AS9145 or equivalent APQP processes.\n\nDue to the nature of this project, successful candidate must hold Active SC Clearance or eligible for SC clearance
