**Key responsibilities:**
* Provide strategic leadership and vision for a Science Area, ensuring scientific activity is excellent and has impact.
* Actively seek opportunities for innovation and integration with other Science Areas.
* Lead a team of 80-100 people, promoting a positive, inclusive research culture.
* Ensure health and safety management and develop Business Plans for the Science Area.
* Review project delivery, financial management, and performance.
* Engage with stakeholders, funders, and customers to represent UKCEH science.
**Requirements:**
* High level of scientific expertise and ability to represent UKCEH in the environmental science community.
* Strategic thinking and leadership skills to direct and motivate teams.
* Ability to develop people and manage poor performance.
* Decision making taking into account risk at project and programme level.
