Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The post holder will have a key role as a senior nurse or AHP in the trust together with Lead nurses and Line managers to support implementation of the ACCEND framework.
One in two individuals born after 1960 are affected by cancer in the UK. The need for a standardised approach to cancer education and increasing knowledge and confidence of the cancer care workforce is therefore important. NHS England recognised this and have developed and launched the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development (ACCEND) programme. The programme provides guidance on knowledge, skills, and capabilities required by all non-medical health care professionals who care for people living with cancer.
Main duties of the job
1. Manage, organise and coordinate the delivery of the ACCEND Framework for the cancer workforce which includes supporting Clinical Nurse Specialists, Cancer Support Workers, and Cancer Allied Health Professionals.
2. Instigate ongoing processes for new starters and the existing workforce to embed ACCEND into practice.
3. Identify training, competency, and skills requirements of the clinical workforce through the strategic Training Needs Analysis.
4. Map workforce needs against internal and external resources to ensure staff have the right skills and competencies to deliver services in line with ACCEND to improve the patient experience.
5. Draw on the expertise of the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire (SWAG) Cancer Alliance ACCEND Lead, GHFT Cancer Lead Nurse, Lead CSW, and other external stakeholders involved with the new ACCEND framework.
6. Plan, facilitate, and support education, training, and development for members of the workforce using internal and external resources. Set up mechanisms for the ongoing success of this.
7. Work closely with Lead Cancer Nurse, Cancer Lead AHP, and Lead Cancer Support Worker to coordinate work to achieve and maintain ACCEND sustainably for the current and future workforce, ensuring the standards expected by external bodies are embedded in practice.
