As a member of the Corporate Industrial Safety Group, the Sr Industrial Health and Safety Specialist will lead multifunctional teams of varying competency levels to accomplish complex health and safety projects. The position is predominantly a consulting role since each site has ultimate responsibility for health and safety compliance. The job holder will also serves a Corporate Champion for key industrial health and safety programs/initiatives for Arkema in the Americas, such as Global Directives for Life Safety and Safe Work, Contractor Safety, Behavior Based Safety, Transportation Safety, and Incident Investigation, among others.
The incumbent will report to the Corporate Manager Occupational Safety and Industrial Health and have no direct reports.
Business travel is estimated to be a minimum 50 of the time and includes potential travel to Canada, Mexico, South and Central America. The work environment requires the ability to maneuver a variety of manufacturing facility environments including heights.
KEY ACTIVITIES:
50 Manufacturing Health and Safety Support
Provide oversight, consultation, coaching, training, and support regarding occupational health and safety programs, processes, action plans, best practices, and regulatory/internal requirements to a wide variety of cross:functional stakeholders at Arkema facilities across the Americas.
Provide consultation, guidance, and training to support an effective corporate incident investigation program. Lead site incident investigations as needed. Provide peer review and evaluation of high risk incident investigations.
Provide consultation, guidance, and training to support an effective site Process Hazard Analysis program. Lead site PHAs as needed. Provide peer review and evaluation of medium and high risk processes.
Provide direct health and safety support to assigned sites within region acting as the primary health and safety point of contact.
Conduct occupational risk assessments (i.e. Task Hazard Assessments, Ergonomic Assessments, etc.) as needed to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses and to improve workplace conditions and practices.
Participate as an auditor in AIMS, PSM, and other general occupational safety audits. Conduct review, verification, and/or provide corrective action guidance/support of site action plans associated with audit findings and/or incidents.
Provide high level field safety support during Turnarounds or shutdowns as needed for high risk capital projects and serve on review teams for Capital Projects and Constructability Reviews
50 Corporate Health and Safety Responsibilities
Lead and manage the implementation, auditing, enforcement and ownership of assigned corporate health and safety initiatives and program/s within the region. Establish planned campaigns, annual targets, training requirements, and update data and metrics for the program/s to drive improvement primarily throughout North America. Provide coaching, site assessments, and facilitate meetings/discussions with site representatives and teams as needed. This also includes regulatory interpretation and Arkema Global interpretation.
Coordinate onboarding, coaching, orientation and ongoing training activities for HES professionals at Arkema Americas sites, including HES University, HES Workforce Stabilization, and other initiatives.
In coordination with HES Management ensures the HES policies, procedures and programs for Arkema are accurately developed, effectively implemented, and in compliance with legal and regulatory policies and other requirements. Participates with government agencies in the development of applicable HES laws and regulations, as appropriate.
Interface with global counterparts to develop, align, review and or update content and distribute documented global programs and materials, such as Global Directives, Procedures, Guidelines, Arkema Essentials, World Safety Day materials, etc
