The Cancer Directorate is looking to recruit a Deputy General Manager for Cancer Performance. This exciting opportunity within the Directorate will support the Divisional Leadership Team and the Directorate General Manager.
You will be the nominated Deputy to the Directorate General Manager and have responsibility for delivery on a number of overarching portfolios which span the Directorate. These will include, but are not restricted to, a focus on cancer performance and delivery, staff engagement and communication, workforce planning, oversight on delivery of the Directorate financial efficiency target and working closely with externally provided data (GIRFT, Model Hospital etc) to drive service improvement.

Main duties of the job
The Directorate encompasses services at both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells sites.
You must have senior operational management experience, and significant expertise in project management, NHS policy, contracting and funding, strategic planning and delivery, development and delivery of staff development projects and communications strategies.

Essential criteria
1. Educated to bachelor’s level or equivalent in experience
2. Evidence of further personal development

3. Formal project management qualification
4. Coaching and mentoring qualification
Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
5. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management role, to include staff, budget and operational experience, or equivalent
6. Experience as an effective team leader, demonstrating leadership skills and the ability to motivate others
7. Experience of managing complex budgets including their control and deployment
8. Demonstrable success in working collaboratively across professions, services and organisational boundaries.
9. Demonstrable success in leading and managing change
10. Experience in developing strategies and approaches which impact across the whole organisation and will meet the needs and suit the culture of the Trust
11. Experience consulting and negotiating in a senior capacity with key partners
12. Significant experience of working in partnership with other external agencies to develop, implement and evaluate policy and strategy including managing change
13. Detailed knowledge of the NHS and the Department of Health Agenda with explicit understanding of current issues across the NHS Professions
14. Personal experience of managing and implementing a significant programme of change or service development
15. Proven pro-active approach to problem solving
16. Sound statistical and financial analysis skills
17. Excellent analytical and interpretive skills, enabling the development, planning and implementation of service changes
18. Experience of working across departmental and organisational boundaries to deliver specific targets and to improve services for patients
