Mechanical Engineering Manager
A Mechanical Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in the Aerospace and Defence industry. Oversee the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and products. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team. As a Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:
1. Supervising engineering teams.
2. Establishing project goals and timelines.
3. Managing design processes.
4. Conducting risk assessments.
5. Coordinating with team members, partners, and clients.
6. Ensuring regulatory compliance.
7. Implementing technical standards.
8. Finding solutions for technical issues.
9. Providing expert advice on mechanical systems to managers and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
1. An engineering manager's operational responsibilities involve overseeing engineering projects and teams, helping strategize, design, and manage projects at every stage, ensuring that the projects are completed efficiently, correctly, and on schedule.
2. Oversee delivery of all projects to customers, ensuring delivery to time, cost, and quality parameters.
3. Responsible for managing and completing the Mechanical engineering and design within budget and planning, including change control and consistency with other disciplines.
4. Client-facing responsibilities, managing client expectations in relation to project scope.
5. Participation in internal and external design reviews and responsible for design acceptance by the client.
6. Make independent decisions on issues, providing expert technical support within Mechanical Engineering.
7. Lead projects in a multi-discipline environment, coordinating all Mechanical engineering and design with other disciplines, including Process, transmission systems, Gears, Gearbox, and Marine engineering.
8. Effectively carry out, check, and approve Engineering and Design estimates, controlling and reporting all costs on allocated projects in terms of progress, scope change, and man hours.
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
1. Design proficiency in Transformation systems, Gears, Gearbox, and Marine engineering.
2. Experienced with the production of mechanical specifications, scopes of work, calculations, drawings, and schedules.
3. Appreciation for the main design packages including Solid Edge, Siemens NX, AutoCAD, etc.
4. Result-oriented; satisfaction comes from delivering top quality and ensuring client satisfaction.
5. Ability to delegate while maintaining an understanding of the Mechanical discipline and intervening when required.
6. Implementation of a solid change control procedure and ability to communicate budget and planning consequences of changes to clients.
7. Leadership and motivation skills to achieve targets, even in case of setbacks.
8. Able to chair design review meetings.
9. Passion for teaching and coaching young Mechanical engineers and designers.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
2. Previous experience in a similar role within the Aerospace and Defence industry.
3. Experience in the heavy engineering industry, power transmission systems, gears, and gearboxes.
4. Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
5. Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.
6. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
7. Detail-oriented with a strong focus on team, quality, and continuous improvement.
8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
