Would you like a career that makes a difference in someone’s life? Could you support adults with learning disabilities to live a life that makes sense to them?
We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and compassionate people to join our fantastic team in Wrexham to support John in his own flat. We have both full and part time support worker positions available for people who can help John live a gloriously ordinary life and help him achieve his goals. Could you be one of his support workers?
Let us introduce you to John*. John is 40 years old and lives in his own flat within a shared house in Wrexham. He loves history and learning new things, regularly visiting National Trust venues with his favourites being Erddig and Chirk Castle. He also loves to visit places like Blist Hill Victorian Centre and Chester Zoo, and would love a Support Worker who can introduce him to even more new places. John also goes swimming every week to do 20-30 lengths of his local swimming pool, and sometimes stops by the café on the way home for a well-deserved snack. At home, John likes to relax in his flat or garden, and likes to keep everywhere clean and tidy. John also attends his job for a couple of hours every Friday and would like someone to come with him for support.
When we asked John what he would like in a Support Worker, he said that he would ‘love someone who is funny and engages with him, and who can go with him to his favourite places and teach him new things’. For example, John recently attended a woodwork session for the first time and built himself a birdhouse completely from scratch.
Sometimes John can get overwhelmed and struggles to manage his emotions, which can be challenging for those supporting him. But with MacIntyre’s Positive Behaviour Support framework, we work together with John and his family to help him communicate how he is feeling and build on positive communication skills. You will also be supported in your work by your Frontline Manager and two Senior Support Workers.
When you join us, we will provide you with complete, free training and will support you in every aspect of your job. At MacIntyre, we strive to make all of our staff feel included, valued and respected, just like the people we support. However, it is very important to John that you hold a UK or EU full driving licence so that he can visit all of his favourite places. We also looking for people who is able to work any day of the week, including weekends on a rota basis, but don’t worry, you won’t be working every single day. A willingness to also do sleep-ins** is also highly desirable, which can add up to £3,380 extra to your annual salary if you do one a week. Finally, in case you are not already convinced, you will also have access to a wide range of extra benefits which as the Blue Light Card Discount and My Rewards Schemes.
Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorships as we await further guidance from the Home Office. Applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered at this time. We appreciate your understanding.
*Names changed for privacy
**During a sleep-in, you will be required to stay at the house overnight as a support to our Waking Nights staff member.

What do we want from you?
You don't have to have any past care experience but a kind, caring, creative and patient attitude is a must. We will train you on all the formal key skills you will need in terms of Emergency first aid, safeguarding and giving medication. We hold a number of training courses that you will be expected to attend whilst you are working with MacIntyre, but don’t worry, you will be given plenty of notice.
You must however have a resilient, patient and compassionate attitude as there may be times where you will need to help John control and regulate his emotions and anxiety in line with his Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plan. But please do not worry, full training on this will be provided
