York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services. In line with our outlook, we are now inviting applications for a Clinical Fellow Post in the Trauma & Orthopaedic Team at York Hospital.
We are looking to recruit to a 6 month post to start August 2025.
The post is not a recognised training post, but would be ideal for those wishing to gain further experience in the specialty as the training, supervision and clinical experience will be similar to that of the training grade doctors and tailored to the postholder's previous level of experience.
Main duties of the job
The lower limb Fellow will work at middle grade level for Mr A Maury, specialist lower limb arthroplasty surgeon, and Mr Ed Britton, Soft Tissue Knee Surgeon. No other Specialist Registrar will be attached to the firm at the same time. The post holder will gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of knee pathology, with opportunity to be involved with and undertake procedures.
About us
The directorate currently consists of 14 orthopaedic surgeons providing on call, trauma and elective services at York Hospital. All of the surgeons and middle grade doctors work on a seconded basis at the local Independent Sector Treatment Centre (Clifton Park NHS Treatment Centre).
Job responsibilities
We have a 30 bedded trauma ward, and a busy outpatient department. There are three dedicated orthopaedic operating theatres with laminar flow: one trauma, one elective and one day case located in the Day Treatment Unit. At the moment we have 2 elective orthopaedic bays with 5 beds available to bays which allows us to do our elective arthroplasty work.
We have an established multi-disciplinary team working alongside the surgeons, including Extended Scope Physiotherapists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
