JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Coordinator of Drama with English - Teacher - Post Primary
REPORTS TO: The Vice-Principal (Resources and Development)
Principal Role: The Drama Coordinator will take responsibility for managing and developing the teaching and learning of Drama throughout the school.
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER
Duties attached to the post of Coordinator of Drama will include:
1. Responsibility for the creation of scheme of works for Drama related courses to include policies for relevant educational issues such as ICT and SEN;
2. Responsibility for the creation, implementation and review of an annual report and action plans;
3. Responsibility for the setting and marking of internal examinations and liaising with the Senior Leadership Team in all aspects of internal examinations;
4. Liaising with the school Examinations Officer on all aspects of external examinations;
5. Liaising with the SENCo regarding the Code of Practice as it applies to individual pupils;
6. Providing regular reports on pupils’ work and progress;
7. Liaising with the Senior Leadership Team on the deployment and appraisal of student teachers;
8. Advising the Senior Leadership Team (in conjunction with the Head of English) on the allocation of classes within the timetable;
9. Developing extra-curricular drama including assisting the Director of the annual school production;
10. Assisting in the development of cross-curricular activities;
11. Assisting with requisition of books, equipment and other resources, issuing and collecting textbooks and maintaining current stock lists;
12. Maintaining a high level of awareness on current initiatives within the subject area and disseminating relevant information;
13. Liaising with relevant agencies;
14. Assisting in the maintenance of good staff relations and ensuring that adequate channels of communication are maintained.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
1. Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
2. Hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach Drama or English as his/her main subject.
3. Minimum of 6 months’ demonstrable experience of teaching Drama or English to achieve positive learning outcomes.
4. Demonstrable experience of using a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
5. Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
SECTION 2 - DESIRABLE CRITERIA
1. Hold an honours degree (minimum 2:2) or equivalent or higher in English, Drama, Theatre Studies or related subject.
2. Minimum of 3 months demonstrable experience of teaching Drama to GCSE level.
3. Minimum of 3 months demonstrable experience of teaching English Language and/or Literature to GCSE level.
4. Demonstrable experience of promoting and developing positive relationships with children and young people through extra-curricular activities.
5. Experience of assisting with the direction of a whole school production.
