Southend-on-Sea City Council are looking to appoint a full-time Transport Planner in a 1-year fixed term capacity. The successful candidate will assist with the provision of transport studies, policies and specifically the Council’s statutory Local Transport Plan (LTP). There will be a need to research, write and help consult on transport policies, such as, the statutory Local Transport Plan. You will carry out transport research, using various methods and software packages, such as GIS, DfT toolkits etc, which will inform policies/schemes. Provide professional advice on planning applications regarding transport policy, sustainable travel etc. Assist with the Project Management of the Multi Modal Transport Model and work with procurement, to write specifications to tender for projects as well as undertaking and analysing traffic surveys and data. Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available. You are required to be on-site at the Civic Centre a minimum of 2 days a week. However, if you are located further from Essex, the manager is happy to look at fully hybrid working, this will be on a case-by-case basis. To be successful in the position, it is essential that you hold a degree in a related subject and/or experience in a Transport Planning role within the public sector. You must have experience in using GIS software, DfT toolkits and other transport software packages. You must have experience in research, planning and other processes involved in the delivery of strategic and large-scale development. As well as knowledge of a Local Authority’s strategic aims/objectives and knowledge of transport models, VISSIM and Saturn. You must hold a UK driving licence and have use of a car.
