The successful applicant will be responsible for (but not limited to): Ensuring a safe and secure environment by adhering to health and safety regulations, including fire safety. Performing general building maintenance, minor repairs, and manual duties. Maintaining the school grounds and external areas. Responding to maintenance requests and prioritising workload effectively. Managing security, including locking and unlocking the premises and responding to alarms. Collaborating with staff to support school events and activities. Following instructions and communicating effectively with all members of the school community. The key skills and qualities of a School Caretaker are: MUST have previous experience working in a school or college or within a caretaker role in different working environments. Practical DIY skills necessary to undertake general building maintenance and minor repairs. Physical fitness appropriate to the tasks in the job description, including the ability to work at moderate heights. Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to the role. An understanding of maintaining security in a public building. Ability to follow instructions, organise and prioritise workload. A willingness to be helpful and supportive to school staff and pupils. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. A positive outlook, problem-solving skills, and resourcefulness. Experience of maintenance work in a professional capacity is desirable.
