Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.
We now have an opportunity for a First Line Manager to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Parc.
We are looking for someone who can develop the Maintenance Operative Team element of the Total Facilities Management (TFM) services to meet our operational and business requirements but also someone with the specific skill set to instruct both staff and prisoners through horticulture to an educational level. This would include environmental sustainability and bio-diversity functions.
You will lead the team and ensure completion of all PMs in target, distribute/allocate and control the reactive workload ensuring that all jobs are completed and any outstanding actions are closed off. You will also actively promote the importance and values of effective communication throughout G4S of environmental, Quality, Health and Safety good practice, Compliance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
* To supervise the maintenance operative team to meet daily delivery schedules and business requirements for the contracted services.
* To allocate work and ensure effective use of all staff throughout the working day.
* To monitor sample work orders to ensure completed correctly and all processes are being followed.
* To work closely with the Head Of FM to ensure targets are fully met.
* To deliver toolbox talks and all relevant health & safety processes to the team.
* To develop and maintain an effective working relationship so that the Client’s needs are understood and the company reputation enhanced.
* To foster an environment of continuous improvement to maximise customer satisfaction.
* To lead and develop skilled teams to meet operational and business needs in a customer focused manner.
* To support the team in continually reviewing operational procedures to maximise customer satisfaction.
* Develop & support positive team ethos within the maintenance working group.
* To ensure that plans are in place to maintain staffing levels appropriate to meet contractual requirements. (Eg Management of Staff Holidays, Kronos time & attendance etc).
* To arrange staff induction, training, and performance reviews of direct reports.
* To carry out the policies and procedures of G4S & Host Establishment, including: Fire, Health and Safety, Accidents, Security, Infection Control, Complaints, Confidentiality.
* To issue, monitor and review a fully auditable permit to work system, to maintain compliance under health & safety.
* Review & update where necessary task specific risk assessments in accordance with working practices, guidance and regulations.
The Ideal Candidate:
Essential Skills:
* Excellent Organisational skills
* Good communication skills and the ability to handle issues of high sensitivity
* 2-3 years plus of working in a supervisory role
* TFM Management experience
* A high level understanding of building fabric and M & E services.
* Good Team working
* IOSH managing safety
Desirable Skills:
* Understanding of contract and its role within organisation
* Excellent communication both verbal and written
* Resilient and able to work well on own initiative while under pressure, meeting tight deadlines while balancing a number of priorities.
