Define and maintain adequate stock levels of all consumable products to support care and treatments effectively delivered for all patients being treated within the IR, Cardiology & Fluoroscopy department. Aid with the maintenance of stock control management systems which accurately monitor the ordering and receipt of products, trends and themes, and aid bottom-up costings. Promptly identify delays and non-delivery of stock items to the Senior Nursing Team/Team Leader, and where ongoing problems may exist, report to the Radiology Service Manager and appropriate Supplies managers to rectify supply difficulties. Implement systems of stock rotation in relation to expiry dates.
Identify products which may potentially expire before this date, and make every effort to ensure they are used or redeployed to minimize wastage. Utilize the stock control management system to accurately monitor utilization of stock items, identifying changes in the type or amount of stock items used, which may reflect changes in practice and have an effect on the non-pay budget. Undertake monthly stock checks of all consumable products held within the IR areas. Organize storage areas so that all items are clearly identified and easily accessible to staff, products are not damaged during storage, and the areas are kept organized, clean, and tidy at all times.
Maintain clear records of all consumable items held, re-ordering details, and stock levels so that nominated members of staff may easily process an order if required when the stock controller is not on duty. Have a clear understanding of product liability legislation, and the procedures to be implemented with regard to defective stock. Work with the senior nursing team/team leader to set and maintain appropriate unit working stock levels. In conjunction with the nursing staff, ensure systems are in place for regular restocking of these clinical areas, and that stock rotation is in place.
Arrange appointments and meet with representatives from our main suppliers to obtain current pricing and product information to ensure we continue to receive the best value for money. Inform the Radiology Service Manager, senior nursing team, and medical staff of the availability of new products or alternative competitive suppliers, and participate in their evaluation of any proposed changes. Monitor the use of consumable products within the clinical areas, identify where actual or potential waste is incurred and make recommendations for changes in practice to the senior nurses/matron so this may be reduced. Maintain a professional working relationship with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
