Monarch Education is seeking a qualified Geography Teacher to join a dynamic and supportive secondary school. This exciting opportunity is open to teachers who are really experienced or an ECT. The role will be a full teaching position including planning and marking and is looking to start ASAP.
The successful candidate will have a clear focus on creating engaging, well-structured Geography lessons that meet the needs of all students. You will have the opportunity to work in a school committed to educational excellence, with a strong team and a supportive leadership structure.
Key Responsibilities Of a Geography Teacher
* Curriculum Planning and Development: Designing lesson plans and instructional materials that align with state and national geography standards, including selecting appropriate topics, activities, and assessments.
* Instruction: Delivering engaging and interactive lessons that cater to various learning styles, utilising a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and fieldwork.
* Assessment and Evaluation: Developing and administering assessments to evaluate student understanding and skills in geography, including grading assignments, providing feedback, and using assessment data to inform instruction.
* Classroom Management: Establishing and maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment, setting clear expectations for behaviour, and fostering respect and collaboration among students.
* Student Support: Identifying and addressing the individual needs of students, providing additional support or resources for those who may need extra help, and encouraging interest in the subject.
* Integration of Technology: Utilising educational technology and resources, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and online mapping tools, to enhance learning experiences.
* Professional Development: Participating in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with developments in geography education, pedagogy, and innovations in teaching practices.
* Collaboration with Colleagues: Working with other teachers and staff to integrate geography with other subjects, participate in interdisciplinary projects, and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
* Community Engagement: Building relationships with families and the community to enhance student learning, which might include organising field trips, engaging in community service projects, or inviting guest speakers.
* Advocacy for Geography Education: Promoting the importance of geography in understanding the world and addressing global issues, encouraging students to see its relevance in their lives.
* Reporting and Communication: Communicating with students, parents, and school administration regarding student progress, classroom happenings, and any concerns that arise throughout the year.
Qualifications
* A recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent).
* A degree in a Geography Related field.
Experience
* Proven experience of teaching Geography at KS3, KS4, and KS5, with a strong understanding of the Geography curriculum.
* Experience of using a variety of assessment methods and being able to adapt teaching to suit students' individual learning styles.
* Ability to use data to inform planning and improve student outcomes.
