Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the busy Medical Photography Department at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting time for our department and the future development of our service as we have recently moved to a new hospital with a purpose-built photographic studio.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract for maternity cover, based at The Royal Liverpool Hospital. Cross site working is also required at Broadgreen Hospital in rotational periods.
The post holder will need to have a degree in Medical Photography or a degree in Photography plus relevant clinical experience, with excellent organisational skills, a flexible approach, and the ability to work professionally and sympathetically, in a fast-paced environment. You will offer a working knowledge of Photoshop and a thorough understanding of digital technology.
Skills in time management and prioritising workloads are essential, whilst supporting the senior photographer.
Main duties of the job
We provide a wide range of medical photographic services working for a variety of specialties such as Tissue Viability, Dermatology, Breast, Orthopaedics, Vascular and Infectious Diseases, working alongside Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and other clinicians from both medical and surgical directorates. The service also contributes to medico-legal services, by providing general photography, and videography for trust-wide services.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To perform clinical and medical photography (including digital video recording) as listed below, using conventional and digital photographic equipment, associated computer equipment and necessary computer programs:
* Photography of patients, of both genders and all ages, in the studio, in monochrome and in colour, for clinical records, teaching, publication and legal cases; assuming sole charge of patients in their care.
* Photography of patients as above but on location in operating theatres, wards, clinics, accident and emergency and the pathology department including mortuary.
* Perform medical legal photography on behalf of the Trust and prepare police statements if required. Be prepared to give evidence in a professional capability regarding any photography performed by the medical photographic section of the department.
* Photography of medical, surgical and nursing procedures in hospital environments.
* Photography of pathological, surgical and anatomical specimens.
* Photography of bacteriological specimens.
* Laboratory photography of experimental procedures and equipment.
Person specification
Qualifications
* BSc Medical Illustration or equivalent
* State registered medical illustration practitioner
Experience
* Experience in a clinical photographic section of a medical illustration department yielding the experience and skills identified in the person specification
* Teaching hospital experience
* Experience working with a multidisciplinary medical illustration department comprising clinical photographers, medical graphic designers, reprographic and multimedia productions
Knowledge
* Photographic and video skills including clinical, commercial & PR using conventional and digital imaging technology
* Good IT skills including working knowledge of Photoshop, QuarkXpress and PowerPoint
* Photographic laboratory skills including mono, colour and E6 processing
* Experience/knowledge of Digital Image Asset Management Systems
* A good knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
