Job summary We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Occupational Therapist to join the Stroke Therapy Team. This is a 12 month contract to cover Maternity leave. This post involves rotating between the acute stroke unit within the Great Western Hospital, the Stroke and Rehabilitation ward within Swindon Intermediate Care Centre (SWICC) and Community Stroke team. This is an exciting opportunity to use your stroke rehabilitation skills, including cognitive rehab, Upper limb and functional rehabilitation. You will be working within the stroke and fractured NOF pathway patients but also work with other general rehab patients. Our band 6 Therapists rotate across the whole stroke pathway which enables effective and joined up working. SwICC is a purpose built 60 bedded inpatient rehabilitation unit on the Great Western Hospital site with access to excellent facilities, including a therapy gym and therapy rehab kitchen. You will be supported by a Band 7 Occupational therapist and participate in band 6 peer supervision. Feedback from staff is that the whole SWICC therapy team are a very supportive team and always willing to support and help each other, and this does sometimes require covering across services when required. Main duties of the job To be jointly responsible with the other Band 6 Occupational Therapists for the rehabilitation and day to day running of the Occupational Therapy Team in your designated area. Designated areas may be with inpatients, outpatients or in community settings or a combination of these. To take responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To undertake advanced comprehensive assessment of patients with a complex presentation using highly specialised assessment and clinical reasoning skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plans, utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care. To perform highly specialised therapeutic handling techniques in order to manually assess quality of movement and muscle tone and to facilitate normal movement patterns and functional ability. To measure and evaluate treatment outcomes using validated outcome measures. To implement Goal orientated practice, working in partnership with the interdisciplinary team, patients and carers, by setting appropriate goals and monitoring outcomes.
