We have a fantastic opportunity for Permanent Section Engineer to join our NMC SW Contract in Polmadie.
Our NMC SW account is working in partnership with Transport Scotland Southwest since August 2020. We are responsible for inspections, cyclical maintenance, asset management, scheme delivery as well as winter maintenance and incident response.
Our team is first on the scene to assist road users on the road network, delivering engineering design and operational services for more than 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures, enabling reliable journey times and a high level of customer care for the people and businesses that use these roads every day.
By ensuring our roads and highways are well-maintained through all-weather seasons and traffic incidents, we aim to create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities.
The purpose of the Section Engineer is to assist the Site Manager in their duties and deliver the works safely, to the required quality, on programme and within budget. You will be required to prepare works programmes and Construction Phase plans for schemes in collaboration with various teams within Amey and our supply chain to ensure safe, compliant and efficient delivery of the works.
The shift pattern is 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri 0800 – 1645hr with opportunity to earn overtime assisting with site supervision at weekends and occasionally on night shifts.
This role would suit a candidate currently working in a similar position who has experience of managing Principal Contractors duties with a background within Civil Engineering, Construction or Term Maintenance Highways Contracts.
You will be responsible for:
* Managing works in accordance with current Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation and policies and to set a good example to the site team(s) and supply chain partners.
* Promoting a positive approach with regard to our immediate community, supply chain and workforce.
* Promoting best use of the network with our network partners.
* Encouraging a positive safety attitude and setting the safety and environmental standards for all site operations and activities.
* Ensuring health, safety and environmental issues are considered and planned for in all site operations and activities, including the impact upon public and third party stakeholders.
* Analysing close calls and reporting findings to the Site Manager.
* Undertaking regular safety inspections, participating in and contributing to daily/shift briefings and workforce consultation meetings.
* Preparing works programmes, Construction Phase Plans and all necessary contract documentation for the safe and efficient delivery of works.
* Actively assisting in monitoring and managing the works to ensure the scheme is delivered in accordance with the agreed programme whilst continually and proactively challenging the programme to reduce duration, risk and cost.
* Ensuring all works are managed and administered in accordance with the contract.
* Ensuring accurate records are maintained of actual works completed, resources used and outputs achieved.
* Collating all site/contract records for each scheme delivered and distributing to relevant parties including uploading to Amey and Client systems to evidence works.
* Actively managing the impact of compensation events on the programme and cost for best value.
* Ensuring works are delivered in line with the contract specification/works information.
* Monitoring for non-conformances in the Quality Plans/Inspection and Test Plans.
* Ensuring appropriate inspection, sampling and testing is carried out to monitor compliance with the contract.
* Supporting the partnering ethos to provide a working environment of co-operation, trust, respect, open communication and honesty with all parties.
* Maintaining customer and client focus for the works.
* Promoting the Amey protecting people ethos and values and Take Care initiative.
We want to hear from you if you are/have:
* Experience in a similar role within Highways/Civil Industry.
* Strong commercial awareness and the ability to communicate with stakeholders at different levels.
* A competent user of Microsoft Office and strong interpersonal skills.
* A full UK driving licence is essential for the successful applicant.
It would be preferred if you have: a relevant engineering discipline; support is available within Amey to allow you to gain academic qualification during your employment.
