About the School:
The school is part of an SEN Trust and is a leading provider of education and care for children, young people, and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. The SEN school is a growing independent day and residential school for students aged 6–19 with complex learning difficulties, including those with profound physical disabilities and/or medical needs. The school is committed to delivering enriching experiences that foster self-esteem and independence, using imaginative resources such as a sensory room, hydrotherapy pool, and rebound therapy.
With recent refurbishments expanding their capacity, they are seeking an Assistant Head of School/Exams Lead to join their leadership team, supporting the Head of School in delivering their vision and leading school examinations. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact and shape the school’s growing services.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the school in the Head of School’s absence and oversee the exam process.
* Collaborate with staff and students to uphold and achieve school strategic objectives.
* Monitor and support the Quality Improvement Plan alongside the Head of School.
* Lead and support staff development, ensuring consistent training and progress.
* Advocate for student welfare, ensuring individual needs and priorities are communicated and upheld.
* Engage with parents, carers, and external agencies to build strong community relationships.
* Oversee curriculum content and effectiveness, tracking student attainment and progress.
Essential Qualifications:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Demonstrated leadership experience
Desirable Qualifications:
* Training in special education needs (e.g., PMLD, SLD, ASD)
* NPQSL
Experience:
* At least 5 years of structured, successful teaching experience within special education
* Whole-school responsibility experience and evidence of translating policy into successful practice
* Leadership experience in key areas, such as inclusion or phase responsibilities, with a focus on raising standards
* Previous experience engaging school governors, trustees, or executives
Knowledge and Skills:
* Clear understanding of essential teaching and learning qualities
* Experience with effective teaching strategies and behaviour management within a special school
* Familiarity with TEACCH or similar ASD support strategies
* Up-to-date knowledge of statutory regulations and OFSTED requirements in special education
