Obesity Specialist Nurse - 6-Month Contractor Role (Opportunity to Extend)
We are looking for an Obesity Specialist Nurse to support our Specialist Weight Management Service. In this role, you will provide telephone support to patients who have questions or concerns about their medication whilst on the service. You will offer guidance on medication adherence, managing side effects, and optimising treatment outcomes.
As part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will play a key role in assessing patients' progress, addressing clinical concerns, and supporting their engagement with treatment plans. Your responsibilities will include:
* Providing tailored advice to patients on the safe and effective use of their prescribed medication
* Helping patients manage side effects to improve adherence and overall treatment outcomes
* Assessing patient concerns and escalating any clinical risks to the MDT as appropriate
* Keeping accurate records of patient interactions and updating clinical notes accordingly
* Feeding back relevant information to the MDT to support collaborative decision-making
This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in an innovative specialist weight management alongside an existing nursing role.
About The Service
This is a non-consultant-led Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management Service. The MDT includes dietitians, psychologists, doctors, nurses, and independent prescribers, working together to provide holistic, evidence-based care. The majority of patients will engage with digital interventions, with approximately 80% expected to be prescribed GLP-1 RA medication.
What You'll Do
* Conduct telephone consultations with patients who request additional support from a nurse during allocated time slots
* Listen actively to patients, understand their concerns, and provide appropriate advice or guidance
* Document key insights and actions from consultations to ensure accurate records are maintained, and enable effective communication with the MDT
* Escalate any issues requiring further intervention to the MDT as needed
* Share relevant patient insights asynchronously with the MDT or attend specific MDT discussions when required

Essential:
* Registered Nursing qualification (RN) or Nursing degree (must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council)
Desirable:
* Additional qualifications related to obesity, such as SCOPE certification
* Experience working remotely using video calls to consult with patients and using messaging software to liaise with an MDT
Experience
Essential:
* Minimum one year's experience in a weight management or diabetes service
Time Commitment
* Candidates must be able to start from the 1st April 2025
* The role is estimated to require approximately 1-2 hours per week (including attendance of the MDT), though this may increase depending on service demand as it scales up
* Weekly MDT attendance will be based on need, depending on the nature of recent patient calls.
Benefits
This is a great opportunity to work in an innovative specialist weight management service, gaining valuable experience in a multidisciplinary, patient-centred environment.
Please Note: This is a self-employed/contractor position and does not constitute employment. The initial contract term is for a minimum of 6 months, with the potential for extension based on mutual agreement.
