Job Description
A Mechanical & Electrical Production Operative is responsible for assembling, testing, and maintaining mechanical and electrical components in a manufacturing or production environment. This role involves working with machinery, wiring, and mechanical systems to ensure that products meet quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Duties
* Assembling mechanical components and structures
* Using hand and power tools for fitting, drilling, and fixing parts
* Conducting routine maintenance on machinery and equipment
* Reading and interpreting technical drawings and assembly instructions
Electrical Duties
* Wiring and connecting electrical components in line with schematics
* Installing and testing circuits, sensors, and control panels
* Identifying and repairing electrical faults
* Ensuring compliance with electrical safety regulations
General Responsibilities
* Conducting quality checks on finished products
* Reporting defects or equipment malfunctions to supervisors
* Maintaining a clean and safe workspace
* Following health and safety guidelines
Skills & Qualifications
* Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
* Ability to read technical drawings and schematics
* Proficiency with hand and power tools
* Strong attention to detail
* Good problem-solving skills
* Ability to work independently and in a team
Preferred Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
* Previous experience in a mechanical/electrical assembly role
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (for electrical work)
* Driving licence essential
* Factory or production line setting
* May involve shift work (day/night rotations)
* Requires standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects
Salary Expectations
* Entry-level: position typical start pay £27,000
* Salaries for experienced roles vary based on expertise
* A three-month probationary period may apply
* Occasional travel may be required
