We're currently recruiting for a Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel to join our Group Legal, Compliance and Governance Team (GLCG). This role will actively manage and have responsibility for providing effective and strategic level advice in relation to disputes including those relating to building/fire safety matters. As part of the newly formed dispute resolution team, you'll have the opportunity to be part of an exciting business whose purpose is to sustainably deliver infrastructure which is vital to the UK. Location: Flexible, hybrid working with occasional travel for meetings
Contract: Permanent, full-time and able to consider part-time working
Responsibilities
As a Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel, your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
* Day-to-day management of the Group's portfolio of building/fire safety related matters including input and strategic guidance on risks and issues in a pre-dispute setting and ensuring efficient and effective handling of disputes.
* Scope, cost control and appointment of external legal suppliers where required, in conjunction with the business and Head of Legal.
* Reporting on the Group building/fire safety related disputes to the Head of Legal.
* Ensuring valuable lessons learned are shared across the building/fire safety portfolio and Group.
* Assisting the Head of Legal with establishing a dispute resolution toolkit including legal training, checklists for use by the GLCG team and Group to ensure best practice when it comes to dispute avoidance and resolution.
* Assisting with the management of a paralegal (dependent upon level and management experience).
What are we looking for?
This role of Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel is great for you if you have:
* Mid-to-senior level Solicitor/Barrister admitted to England & Wales or passed QLTs
* Contentious construction lawyer with experience of managing matters and disputes including litigation, arbitration and ADR (including mediation) either in private practice or in-house.
* Experience of managing building/fire safety related matters and disputes.
* Good knowledge of Building Safety Act 2022 and related statutory legislation.
* Commercially minded and able to articulate complex legal concepts in simple, commercial language.
* Strong organisational and multi-tasking skills to be able to manage several active matters simultaneously whilst able to strategically prioritise business critical matters.
* Excellent relationship builder at all levels of seniority.
