Based in Dundee, Highland Game is a wild game processor producing venison cuts and venison meat preparations to major retailers, the food service and wholesale markets. An increase in throughput and sales means we are looking to employ a shift production manager to enhance our factory management team. Working closely with Quality, Sales and Maintenance, the Shift Production Manager will be a hands-on role, managing all aspects of operations on their shift. Core hours will be 14:00 to 22:00 Monday to Friday. Due to the seasonal nature of the business longer hours maybe required October to March, however time will be given back April to September. The Role Reporting to the Production Manager you will be responsible for the following: Overseeing all operational activities on your shift and the timely and accurate production of orders and ensuring accurate recording of all traceability and quantities. Controlling raw material, packaging and end product stocks to minimise wastage and handling costs. Ensuring the correct level of raw materials are available for production to prevent time wasting. Measuring and improving production efficiencies. This includes productivity, reduction of downtime and cost reduction through yield improvements and reduction of waste. Ensuring all ways of working comply with health and safety instructions and are within the scope of the quality and HACCP systems with all documentation produced to standard. Line management of all production staff on shift and commitment to good practice and leading by example. Identifying training needs and mentoring and coaching production staff (Supervisors, Butchers, Operators) to ensure ways of working are understood and adhered to and staff are developed to be more effective and improve skills bases. Provide cover for the Production Manager during absence. The Person Ideally a graduate with experience in production supervision/management within the food industry. Experience from the meat industry or chilled food products would be an advantage. Experience in continuous improvement would be beneficial and proven problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills at all levels and the ability to manage and deliver change. Strong Microsoft Office skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Not afraid to get into the factory and work with the operators, supervisors and managers to ensure that production, safety and quality requirements are understood and met.
