Job Title: Geotechnical Senior Design Engineer
Location: Solihull
Purpose of the Role:
As Geotechnical Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for all activities associated with the production of Geotechnical Design in compliance with the Business Management Systems (BMS) and CDM regulations, as part of a team providing design and design checking services for a full range of Permanent and Temporary works from excavations to working platforms and foundations. The services also include support to the Environment Engineering Design team and provision of alternative solutions, value engineering, buildability and problem/defect resolution including specification compliance issues.
You will also provide technical support and mentoring duties to other members of the team.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Design Production: The production of Geotechnical engineering design deliverables such as design calculations, specifications, GI specification, supervision and reporting and design Reporting (GDR's / Design Notes) for excavation support, slope stability, working platforms, shallow and deep foundations feeding into General Arrangement and detailed drawings as required.
Tender Input and Sub-contractor Appointment: The preparation of preliminary geotechnical schemes or value engineering solutions; undertaking technical assessment of supplier tender submissions, assisting with the selection of Consultants and Sub-contractors.
Sub-contractor Design and Coordination: Undertake the review, checking and integration of supply chain designs - including calculations, drawings, technical datasheets, etc - and in doing so, ensure supply chain design compliance with Design briefs.
Construction, Design and Management (CDM): Achieving the highest H&S standards in design. Lead by example and develop a positive H&S culture. Ensure compliance with the safety and quality plan. Produce design risk assessments for all GT designs. Identify all hazards and reduce risks, considering underground services, overhead services, earthworks, confined space working and the requirement for permit control.
Desired Experience:
* Knowledge and understanding of civil and geotechnical engineering with practical design experience.
* Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, desk studies, ground investigation, interpretation and construction contracts and specifications.
* Familiarity with geotechnical modelling and/or design software, (such as WALLAP, OpenGround, Slope/SeepW and Settle3D).
* Up to date understanding of current design standards.
* Gain working knowledge of aspects and law, including The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and CDM 2015.
* Good knowledge of soil mechanics and engineering/ geological principles.
