This role carries out metals testing using hydrogen sulfide gas to replicate oil and gas sector conditions with ISO 17025 (UKAS) accreditation. The role supports the Team Leader - Sour Service, In the operation of the laboratory with detailed understanding of test procedures, equipment set-up and maintenance to deliver timely and efficient completion of assigned work, as directed by the Team Leader or project manager. Key activities:
* Undertake laboratory work for sour service projects, including advanced laboratory work, in collaboration with project managers, communicate requirements and timings to project manager to ensure smooth running of projects and maintenance of ISO 17025 accreditation.
* Set an example of well, run laboratory work, ensuring all work carried out follows agreed procedures as set out in the local management systems including, as appropriate, job sheets, assignment plans, sample instruction sheets prior to authorisation and release by Team Leader or project manager.
* Assist in promoting and suggesting Kaizen 5S activities and improvements.
* In conjunction with Team Leader and/or project manager understand written and numerical data and information pertinent to the progress of assignments and the preparation of client reports including but not limited to the identification of outlying or unexpected results. Assist in implementation if any identified actions arising.
* Produce clear result reports, in MS Office formats with a minimum of technical and typographical errors.
* Maintain daily contact with senior staff/project leaders, working as part of a team reporting to line manager on a regular basis.
* Ensure laboratory equipment is in safe working order and monitor the area equipment calibration requirements to ensure compliance with quality procedures. Resolve issues arising.
* Develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of laboratory area and be able to apply and improve appropriate standards and procedures.
* Site/work client contact may be required individually or as part of a team.
* Undertake other duties in support of the business as requested and approved by the Team Leader.
* Avoid unsafe acts and follow all company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.
GSCE A Levels/ BTech/HND and a minimum of five years relevant laboratory experience. Alternatively, a degree in a relevant scientific or engineering subject with relevant experience in a metallurgical, chemical or testing environment.
* Experience in the oil and gas sector with handling hydrogen sulfide gas would be advantageous.
* Experience in or understanding of ISO 17025 procedures would be advantageous.
* Be trained in appropriate laboratory safety procedures, laboratory performance standards, chemical handling and COSHH.
* Good organisational and time management skills.
* Ability to interact with colleagues at all levels in a professional manner, always.

* Proficient in the use MS Office computer programs.
