In this role as Senior Inorganics Chemist, you will coordinate the development of new analytical methods as required by the Scientific Services business strategy. You will use your sound knowledge and experience to improve existing methods and procedures and aid in troubleshooting across the Chemistry Laboratory, working with both the Chemistry Team Leader and Chemistry Manager to achieve this.
Applying a high level of analytical skills, you will use the management system and DWI requirements to validate new methods. This includes ensuring that data is accurately recorded, and both Health and Safety regulations and Company Policy are followed. You are expected to possess strong verbal, written and analytical skills and you are comfortable using IT systems.
You are comfortable with maintenance and troubleshooting on relevant instruments and have knowledge and experience with ICP-MS, Ion Chromatography and discreet and segmented flow analysers.
As a key member of the Laboratory team, you must be able to prioritise workloads, to enable you to produce quality outputs to key deadlines. You are also a strong team player, comfortable managing staff, working alongside Laboratory and Water Quality staff, and acting as a first point of contact for the wider business. Occasionally, there may be a change in workload/hours to ensure there is cover in the laboratory. You are able to adapt and work flexibly when needed.

What will you be accountable for?
* Supporting the chemistry teams with maintenance and troubleshooting and providing support to ensure cover is maintained in the teams.
* Deputizing for the Chemistry Team Leader and reporting on all chemistry and personnel matters.
* Organizing the training of staff on all relevant laboratory methods.
* Monitoring technical developments to assist Water Quality in making informed decisions.
* Prioritising workloads and demonstrating competence in staff management.
* Ensuring use of equipment and chemicals are documented and managing stock levels for all materials.
* Following the management system and DWI requirements for validation of new methods.
What do you bring to the role?
* Chemistry degree or equivalent qualification in similar discipline.
* At least 2 years’ experience in analytical laboratory work.
* Knowledge and experience on ICP-MS, Ion Chromatography, discrete and segmented flow analysers.
* Experience on maintenance and troubleshooting on associated instruments.
* Experience with method development and validation of analytical methods.
* Knowledge of good laboratory practice and ability to train others.
* Supervisory and communication skills.
* Experience working in a UKAS accredited water laboratory is desirable but not essential.
